EVE Blog Banter #6: Nowhere to go...

Welcome to the sixth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month's topic comes to us from Quintrala of Speed Fairy . She suggests to "write a short fiction story about the dissolution of the BoB alliance. It could be from BoB's point of view, the Goons', by neutrals in 0.0, civilians in Empire, NPCs or even rats. Write about before, during or after the coup; give us stories of market, war, people or love. In-character or roleplay. We want to know what happened, from those fictional characters that, in your mind, were part of it."

The last time I sat down to write a short story, Reagan was President, the USSR was still a super power, and Macs were just a silicon dream. Suffice to say, I had a hard time coming up with a story for this banter. Though the BoB/Goons story was a major event earlier last month, I've barely had a chance to get to understand the full depth of the changes to the political and sovereign landscape of New Eden. As such, I had to write something that would confine itself to the extent of my knowledge and breadth of my ignorance.

What follows is my best attempt.

Friday Video: Escape From City 17 - Part One

I've tried playing Half-Life and Half-Life 2, but simply can't. I just get motion sickness, which I somehow don't get playing Halo, Gears of War or even Call of Duty 4. Still, I love the premise of the game, and The Purchase Brothers do an amazing job making a mini-series out of it.

Looking forward to Part Two.

[Sat morning: This post should have gone up last evening, but somehow I screwed-up the schedule]

CCP pulls a fast one on us with Fanfest 2009

So, CCP recently annouced that another EVE Fanfest will be held this year (check!), in Iceland (check!), in Reykjavik (check!), between October 1st-3rd (what the eff!!). October? Nah, that's got to be wrong right. What? It's not!!! But they've held it in November since the Big Bang!

Seems things change. And yes, the 2009 edition of the EVE Fanfest will be held on the first day of October, my birthday of all days! The sad news, is that I won't get to go. My plans to attend, were squashed with the move to the new dates. You see, my better-half and I are expecting Mini-CK No.2 in early September, and though I love this game, some things in life come first.

Family, EVE, God.

I find myself skipping this year's fanfest., but true, I did go last year, and will try to go the next!

In the mean time, enjoy this great teaser for the event! You lucky bastards! :p

Allow me the privilege of flattering my ego!

Similar to the above Iteron warping home to some distant orbital station somewhere with the vast universe of New Eden, I find myself warping home to this blog. Full of ideas and renewal. I've got contest results to give a away (remember this?), new posts to write, new ideas to explore, new lists to revisit, and 500 millions ISK to give away. That's right, half-a-billion ISK to give out.

But before we get there, allow me to indulge in some grand delusional scheme that will see my ego grow to the size of the Stay Puft Marshmollow man, before imploding to its normal, above-average standard!

I love stats. I, like many bloggers out there, love to go over this blogs statistics: number of visitors, where they came from, how long did they stay over, where 'd they end up after passing by, as well as what keywords they used to get here. But of all these stats, the one I have the most fun reviewing are the keywords. So lets take a look at the top 20 keywords that get people here, of the last 2000 visits.
    1. eve online blog
    2. eve online screenshot
    3. eve online podcast
    4. eve online guides
    5. eve online corporations
    6. eve blog pack
    7. crazykinux
    8. eve blog
    9. eve online blogs
    10. eve mini client
    11. eve podcast
    12. capsuleer
    13. myrmidon setup
    14. crazy kinux
    15. capsuleer iphone
    16. eve blogs
    17. eve online iphone
    18. eve overview
    19. eve myrmidon
    20. eve online tortuga
What's interesting is that in some cases, the link to this blog doesn't appear on the first page but on the 2nd or 3rd, and in some cases as far as the 5th. Yet they get here! Other interesting findings: Myrmidon is the only ship within the top 20, appearing twice, as does capsuleer, crazykinux, podcast, blog(s) and iPhone. Finally, the only video making that list is Tortuga. Not surprising considering the quality of the video.

OK, well that's enough self centeredness for one day, now I'm off putting together another post so that this one isn't the latest post for too long!

While waiting for Apocrypha I came across this...

If I can't play the game at this very moment, I can at least watch this trailer and drool!

The end is the beginning of something new...

I have played. I have blogged. I have podcasted. I have done all those things and more. I have lived through the day and seen the shadow of night set its blanket over the horizon. But I have seen the light. I know that a new dawn lies ahead of the darkness of night. And it will rise again.

He who has never fallen, will never know the meaning of standing.

Okay, cut the romantic prose, and get to the point you may be asking. What the hell is he talking about?

I'm talking about this blog. About the game. And mostly about continuity.

I've been blogging about gaming and EVE Online for over 4 years now. At first it was a minimal; a post a month. Then I got more into it. Then it became a habit. Then a passion.

But when you pour your heart and soul into something you eventually run the risk of forgetting what it is you were doing in the first place, and why you were doing it. And the it all comes crashing down.

Then they start to point the finger at you. They start to say that you're a quitter. That it's the beginning of the end.

Then you say the hell with'em! You raise a knee and push your self back up, and dust your self up. You look around. See what you've accomplished and get back on the train.

You may think I'm writing this to explain myself. To justify my absence. I'm not. I'm simply standing back up, dusting myself, and getting back on the train.

Life's not planned. It throws curved balls at you. Some you're able to avoid, some not. But you go on. You persevere.

                                          Blogging is similar.

The end is the beginning of something new... ...it's good to be back!
