Oz has a new guide to skill points, and it’s worth watching whether you’ve just started playing EVE or have been training characters for years. If you don’t know him, he’s best known for making sense of EVE’s markets and economy through his videos, The Oz Report, and his trading tools over on TheOz.Space. He was also our guest on episode 9 of The Safe Spot.
In this recent guide, he covers how to earn, buy, and speed up skill points, then walks through the numbers behind skill farming.
Here are the tips to take notice of:
- Keep your skill queue running. Your character trains even when you’re offline.
- Claim the free SP. Check the New Eden Store’s weekly offer, daily goals, and event rewards.
- Train with a purpose. A smaller pool of SP in skills you use can do more for you than a much larger total spread everywhere.
- Plan remaps around months of training. They’re most useful when your upcoming skills share the same attributes.
- Think about where you fly before buying expensive implants. The faster training is useful, but you can lose the implants with your pod. A separate training clone is one option.
- Check the price before using an accelerator or injector. Injectors give less SP to characters with higher SP totals, and a training boost isn’t automatically a good deal.
- Run the numbers before skill farming. Oz’s example loses ISK at regular prices and turns profitable only when discounts bring the costs down.
I’d give his closing advice the most weight. If you’re new, train for what you want to try and find out what you enjoy doing in New Eden before worrying about perfect efficiency. There’s plenty of time to optimize once you know what you’re optimizing for.
