The EVE Blog Pack & Banters are looking for a new home. Are you up for it?

Earlier this week I tweeted that I was looking for someone to take over the maintenance of both the EVE Blog Pack and the EVE Blog Banters. At this point in time I'm looking to enjoy the game more then to promote the EVE Blogging Community. Something I've not been much of these passed few months, despite trying!

Indeed, over the last 3 years the Community has become a healthy vibrant landscape of EVE Online blogs and Twitter personalities, far beyond what I could have ever imagined. And now it's time to hand over these two very special initiatives to someone (or group) who will give the care and nurturing needed. That might sound very "paternal", but when you've poured your heart and soul into something, it almost feels as is they're alive.

But let me reassure you, I'm no leaving the EVE community, au contraire! Being less involved in maintaining the Banters and Pack will free me to focus on playing the game, and even dare I say blog about it. There are of course other circumstances that have forced me to come to this decision. I've recently accepted a position within the gaming industry, and to prevent any conflict of interest with my new employer, I'd rather have someone else take over the role of caretaker for the Banters and Pack. At this point, I can't say more about this new opportunity, but you'll get to learn more in a few weeks. And no, it's not CCP! :p

So, who's up for it? Who's got the passion, the time and the guts to take this role? I don't yet know how we'll make the transition, but we'll figure something out!

Please use the comments below to put forth your candidacy and offers. Let's have a healthy, friendly discussion!

Help me save "Fiddler's Edge" and add a great blog to the Blog Pack

Earlier this week I cleaned up the EVE Blog Pack, removing outdated blogs and adding a fresh new set of prolific EVE Online bloggers. In doing so, I turned down a few bloggers who had made the request to get added to the Pack. Last evening I set myself to the task of cleaning up my Unread emails that were related to this blog. Some of these dated back to last November.

You see, despite the fact that I may not be as productive in writing about my experience in EVE as I was in the past, I still get a ton of emails, which all warrant my attention. And sometimes, some of these request slip through the cracks. Just as great blogs can sometimes get overlooked. Fiddler's Edge is one of those.

Without realizing the terrible mistake I was about to make, I simply declined his request, once again, to join the Pack. And now, Mord seems to have decided to move on.

I've just spent the last hour, going through emails and evemails, from folks asking me to add Fiddler's Edge to the Pack. Mord even wrote about it and got a ton of comments to encourage him to continue and to disregard my blatant mistake. And indeed it was a mistake not to included him.

But hopefully it's a mistake that can be corrected. This is where you come in.

I need you to head over to his blog and add to the comments, and request that he reconsider and continue to do what he's been doing all these months; writing a great blog, for the benefit of his readers and the EVE Blogging community.

And Mord, if you're reading this, I hope you'll forgive this ol'time EVE Blogger, and provide us the privilege to be part of the EVE Blog Pack!

Making the Pack: 10 blogs make the cut as the Blog Pack gets refreshed!

As hinted earlier this year, the EVE Blog Pack got reviewed during the week-end. Some blogs were removed, some old Pack members were pulled out of retirement, and quite a few new blogger got to be part of the EVE Online Blogging Elite.

I've decided to give a chance to an old Pack member, A Scout's Domain's Lumenarious Rex (@Lumenarious_Rex), who recently returned to EVE. The lad had always written great posts. I've given him a grace period to get his blog updated! Also new to the Pack is the folks from EON magazine. The volunteered and have recently been putting out some great posts.
  1. A Scout's Domain, by Lumenarious Rex
  2. Angry Care Bear (The), by Serenity One
  3. EON :: The official EVE Online magazine, by @EONmagazine
  4. EVE PRIVATEER, by Rebecca Aventine
  5. EVE's parity bit, by Paritybit
  6. Letrange's EvE Blog, by Letrange

The Great EVE Blog Pack Clean-Up - Early 2011 Edition

It's that time of the year again. Those of you that have been reading this blog for sometime now know that every now and then I do a little clean-up operation with the EVE Blog Pack membership. Call it a "shake n' bake" ops if you will. Though I try to enforce the Pack's Rules & Regulations on a regular basis, sometimes a good good ol'fashion clean-up is just needed.

So, as I've done in the past on numerous occasions, I'll be retiring all non-active blogs, blogs that have not had a post in over a month, or who's owners have asked to be removed (yes that does happen!).

So all of you who've always wanted to be part of the Pack, this is once again a chance to be part of this elite group! Hell, I might even re-apply myself! As I tweeted yesterday, I invite you all to submit your blogs or those you enjoy who you see as a good fit for the Pack. As long as they abide by the Rules of the Pack, I'll be willing to consider their inclusion.

So far, here's the suggestions received that I'm considering:
Plenty of great blogs out there, so please keep those suggestions coming!

Looking forward to the next iteration of the EVE Blog Pack!

Making the Pack: 8 new blogs make it into the EVE Online Blog Pack

As I promised earlier this week, the Pack needed a little clean-up. In doing so I've removed myself from the Pack as well as two well know blogs Winterblink.com and Postings from the Edge (by EON's Editor Zapatero). My reasoning was quite simple, all 3 of these blogs are well known and I wanted to shine the spotlight on some new blogs.

Removing these blogs gave me a little more room to add fresh new blood to the Pack. So without further ado, here are the blogs that have been added to the EVE Blog Pack:

Now those keeping tabs will have noticed that this takes the total count of blogs in the Pack to 52. And why not! With the hundreds of blogs out there, why limit ourselves to just 20, or 40 or even 50 for that matter. I say the more, the merrier, as long as the quality and frequency is there. Speaking of which, I've noticed quite a few Pack members with outdated content. Unless they start posting soon, or inform me of a new URL, I might have a few more openings on the Pack in the not so distant future.

So, welcome to the members above. And Venom, since you're the only veteran to return, why don't you show the example to these newbie Pack Members and write a little something!

P.S.: And one last thing. Since I'm no longer in the Pack, I'll need at least one of the Pack Members to write a little something about this post. This is going to be interesting!

Taking my leave...

In looking back at the last 2 years, I've decided to take my leave of the EVE Blog Pack. Not this blog, nor EVE Online of course! What? What did you think? :p

Indeed. It's time I applied the same rules I've forced other Pack Members to follow, to myself and my part in the Pack. As @casiella rightfully mentioned recently, this blog is no longer just about EVE Online. And though I'm not one to shy away from the traffic the Pack generates for its members, I'm no traffic junkie either. I write this blog because I like to share what I find interesting about EVE, about MMOG, gaming and geek related stuff. That's my nature.

When I created the Pack, I wanted it to be the elite in EVE Blogs. And I still do. This blog no longer needs to be promoted. It gets all the attention it needs, and then some! :D

Since I wrote about How to get into the Pack a while back, asking bloggers to submit their blogs, or blogs they'd see in the Pack, I've received a good number of great and interesting blogs.

Here's the list of potential new Pack members so far:
I'll be taking in new applicants over the week-end and will make my final decision Sunday evening. Expect an update on this by Monday morning! And don't worry if your blog is not on the list. I may, or may not, pull a few surprises up my sleeve!

So long EVE Blog Pack, you've been a lot of fun!

How to get into the EVE Blog Pack...

If I didn't track the hits to the EVE Blog Pack, and instead I measured its success based on the numbers of requests I get in comments, in tweets or emails, it would still come up as one of my most visited posts. And that in of itself is a measure of the quality, diversity and consistency of the content that the Pack members provide to the EVE Community. And we must thank them for it!

But that high measure of quality demands very high standards. I long ago recognized that need and wrote about it back when I wrote about "The Few, the Proud, the EVE Blog Pack Members!". And so, I've always tried removing outdated blogs, either at the request of their owners, or by their inactivity.

This is such a time. Currently the Pack has 4 openings, though I might have a few more free spots if some blogs are not updated shortly (see the list below). Blogs that haven't seen a post in 4 weeks, risk being removed at any given time from the pack. That's just the nature of things. Additionally, I like to ask from time to time if you know of any blogs that should be part of the pack. With the hundreds of EVE Blogs out there, it's now virtually impossible for me to catch all the best. That's why I need your input. So below, you'll also find a list of blogs I'm considering. Should yours be in there? Please leave a comment to let me know.

Might get REMOVED from the Pack:

Might get ADDED to the Pack:

So "How do you get into the EVE Blog Pack"? Here's what Pack members need to do!

[The original post can be found here]

The Privilege of Membership, comes with Responsibilities
As the popularity of the Pack grew, more and more bloggers wanted in. But as my initial goal was to foster both quality and quantity, I couldn't simply accept everyone. There are tons of great EVE blogs out there, all of whom deserve to get noticed. Which is why I've got the EVE Player Blogroll where I list every player's blog as quickly as I get requests. But for the Pack, I wanted to create this sense of belonging to an elite group of bloggers.

So I've decided to limit the members to 51 blogs for now - with a few conditions though.

Being part of the Pack comes with its responsibilities and obligations. The first and foremost is to blog regularly. Ideally a few times a week, at the very least once. And that is a no easy feat, believe me. Real Life often gets in the way - as it should since remember people, this is just a game - and missing a week is not uncommon. But going beyond the 3 week mark puts a Pack member in a situation of potentially being removed from the Pack.

Taking it One Step further
Now, along with the regular blogging and commenting, I want to ask a bit more of the Pack Members. This is what will make the Blog Pack different from my Players Blogroll.

Here's a list of To Dos that all members should strive to accomplish as part of their duties.
  • Blog regularly about EVE Online, a few times a week preferably.
  • Comment on Pack members blogs.
  • Make a post about the EVE Blog Pack (if you haven't done so yet). Make sure to link to it!
  • OPTIONAL: Add other's blog to your Delicious, Reddit, StumbleUpon and/or Technorati accounts.
  • OPTIONAL: Digg posts that you find useful or interesting.
  • When writing a post, try to link to each other posts, bringing the community even closer together.
  • Have a blogroll listing all the Blog Pack members.
Doing all, or some, of these action items will add value to our individual blogs, and will bring the Pack to a whole new level.

Remember, we're each individually responsible for the success of the Blog Pack. It's up to us to decide what we do with it!

The ever expanding EVE Blogosphere! - Part 5

"The Fools we are, the more fun we have" the old saying goes. Well, we're getting to be a lot of fools these days, and we sure do know how to have fun! As I'm recuperating at home today, I'm taking the time - between much needed naps - to clean out my Gmail Inbox and starred items. Amongst those are request to get blogs added to the EVE Online Blogroll Lovefest.

And so, I'm very happy to be adding the following blogs to the listing:
  1. Lab Utopia
  2. Rackin' up Bad Karma
  3. Roving Drone (The)
  4. Money or Meteors
  5. Void Burn
  6. Grieflogs
  7. Lord Zekk's Yaarmachine
  8. Scrap Metal & Faction Ammo
  9. zealot (the)
  10. Any more of you out there...
I've also got one spot open on the EVE Blog Pack! So if you have a blog you think should be in the Pack, or know of one, then please let me know about it!

The New, Improved and Expanded EVE Online Blog Pack

It's original creation goes back almost 2 years, when I hand picked 18 blogs to represent the best amongst the bloggers within the young and nascent EVE Blogging Community. Over the course of the next two years this same Community would explode in numbers, quality and diversity. Today, with over 500 EVE Bloggers out there, it most likely is the biggest, most organized MMO blogging community!

As a result, the EVE Blog pack had to evolve. And though this evolution got off to a rocky start, in the end I believe that the new Blog Pack, who's members you see listed below, is stronger and more representative of what's out there in the EVE Blogging Community.

The blogs below were chosen for their quality, originality, regularity as well as potential for greatness. Some are well established blogs, some are in character (IC), others not, some try to tell a story, while others try to share advice, knowledge and experience. In the end they are all great blogs, amongst the hundred out there.

When I look at the list below, I see familiar faces, old and new. I see the voices of experience, and the determination of the rookies. For all of these blogs, I am happy to welcome you in the EVE Blog Pack.

Give yourselves a big round of applause!

[UPDATE: Somehow, Nash Kadavr's blog slipped in a crack and was missed when I put the final list together. His addition puts the list at 50+1 blogs! The more fools, the more fun we'll have!]
  1. A Ghost Blog
  2. A Merry Life and a Short One
  3. A Mule in EVE
  4. Astral's EVE Trial by Fire

Know that I deliberately did not link back to the original blogs. Not yet. Not on this post. The official listing of the Blog Pack still resides on that original post of June 2008. And though I'll need a bit of time over the next day or so to update that post with the additional 24 new blogs, as well as update the Google Reader RSS feed and my Blogger widget, I wanted to share the list with you! It will also serve as a permanent mark, to remind us what that listing was on this day.

And moving forward, every time I'll make important changes to the Pack, I'll make such a post to commemorate the blogs that were part of this! It's an EVE Blogging Community History, one I am not willing to forget. One which I want to remember, for past, current as well as future members of the Pack!

A Short History of the EVE Blog Pack

What is the EVE Blog Pack? What is its purpose? What functions does it serve? Are those still valid today? Which blogs should, and should not be part of it? Who currently maintains the Pack? Who should?

All these questions are valid. All deserve an answer.

Earlier today, the influential @RocWeiler wrote a post in which he offered his opinion on how I should proceed with the shake-up of the Pack. He offered a few interesting ideas and the reasoning behind it. Some of these went against the approach I had decided to take and members of the EVE Blogging Community started commenting and offering their take on it.

This got me thinking.

I've always been an open-minded kind of guy, and have certainly always welcomed the opportunity to argue my position, to listen to others' opinion and to even reconsider my position, if & when I have erred. Which is what I eventually did after putting a lot of thought into it.

Before we go any further though, I'd like to take you through a bit of the history of the EVE Blog Pack. This shouldn't take too long, so bare with me!

The Blog Pack saw the day back in June of 2008. At the time, there were less than 40 blogs dealing with EVE Online. Yes, that's right less than 40 blogs. Of those, there were 17 blogs that only focused on EVE. Back then, there wasn't any of the cohesiveness and daily interaction there is today within our blogging community. Nobody who's blog I followed was on Twitter - hell, I had just joined Twitter! There wasn't the sense of belonging there is within the EVE Blogging Community today. We were at its Dawn.

That's how, after reading about the concept of a Blog Pack, I decided to step-up and create our very own group of elite EVE Bloggers. We would be the lighthouse for other EVE players, those of us who wanted to put in writing their adventures, their ideas, their advice about our beloved virtual world.

And it worked! The community started to grow. Soon we were 50, then 100, then 200 EVE Bloggers! It kept growing.

And as the blogging community grew, so did the Blog Pack. Going from 18 blogs, to 20, then to 30 and last time to 40 blogs! The original 18 blogs (including mine) were all chosen and picked by me. As the Pack grew, I started to ask for help from within the Community as to which blogs they deemed worthy of the Pack.

Early on, I decided to put some rules of conduct for the Pack Members, and though at first everyone got on the band wagon, over time the enforcement of these rules wasn't as thorough as it should have been. And that's mostly my fault I'll admit. Having said that, most of the current members of the Blog Pack today keep an active blog.

Which is why I decided to keep the Pack going.

Originally, I had wanted to narrow the Pack back down to 20 members, not for lack of time on my part, but more to create a sense of an elite. And that's where I may have erred. When I asked for your input, I wasn't trying to get a popularity contest going, so that the "most popular" blogs got picked. My intention was to take the pulse of the Community, see which blogs were being suggested, and then choose 30 or 40 amongst those, which would then be narrowed down by you.

In the end, I wanted the community to have its say in some way. But all it did was split it into 2 camps - those who wanted the "Community to decide" and those who were against what was coined the "popularity contest". In trying to please everyone, I was pleasing no one. Not even myself.

And so I've decided to go back to my original modus operandi. I'll go through the blogs that are currently in the Blog Pack, remove those who are outdated, or have requested to be taken out, then pick from the blogs you suggested the ones that I deem well written, well structured and useful to the Community. In all, the Pack will have 50 members. That's right, not the 20 I had previously indicated, but 50. On that, @RocWeiler was right, the Pack should grow, not diminish.

The Capsuleer Dev team was kind enough to include the Blog Pack within the app early on. Back then, it was a WIN-WIN situation. I'm still very proud to know that the Pack is being fed into the app and that bloggers get noticed that way. As long as this arrangement is mutually beneficial, I don't see why we shouldn't continue to work together. If however this were to change, if the Devs decided to put together their own listing of EVE Bloggers, then I would certainly look back, cherish our accomplishments, and wish them good luck!

In the end the EVE Blog Pack is a group of good bloggers that I, has a player, has a blogger and as a member of this healthy and strong gaming community, deem worthy of my time. I can't read through 500 blogs on a daily basis, but I can through 50. Well I try anyways!

But it should not stop with me. The EVE Blog Pack is a group of 50 EVE blogs of my choosing. There is nothing stopping you from creating your own. I'd actually love to see what you can come up with! I've got a few ideas myself!

...

In the last 2 years the EVE Blogging Community has matured and grown beyond the means or control of any one individual. My goals were never to oversee that Community. I wanted it to grow and did everything in power to help nurture it. Along the way I've made some new friends, some of which have come and gone as active members of the Community. Today the Community is a successful, highly involved group of players, some of which blog, and even podcast about our experiences while we play the game we love (well I do try when I can!).

I look forward to its continued growth!

The Evolution of the EVE Blog Pack

When I first created the EVE Online Blog Pack, it had almost 20 members, all of whom I had personally requested to come on board. I had plenty of time to monitor their post frequency and quality. Being unemployed does have its benefits. That was almost two years ago!

Some time after its creation, I even went as far as to lay down some ground rules as to what it took and what was expected of an EVE Blog Pack member. I still had time to patrol the blogs, and make sure people kept their end of the agreement. Today, this is no longer the case. And at least half of the now 40-member Blog Pack blogs are outdated, haven't had a post in quite some time, or post on a very irregular schedule.

Today, this all comes to an end!

Tonight, you and I will start to lay down the foundation of a new Blog Pack. A leaner group of elite EVE Online Bloggers.

But to do this I need your help. Your input. Your opinion.

I need you to take a look at the current Pack, pick and choose the ones you want to keep, and male a list. The new Blog Pack will have 21 members. That's 20 EVE Online blogs of exceptional quality, who provide useful and helpful information to capsuleers. The 21st blog will be mine.

I also need your feedback as to who should be part of this new Pack. Who deserves to be on that list. It could be your blog, or a corpmates, or a blog that you regularly visit and find insightful. But with all the new EVE blog out there, this is something I simply cannot do alone. This is where you come in!

Please use the comments below to suggest blogs you'd like to see on the Pack. Over the next week or so, I'll review all these suggestion, make a first pass at that list, then ask you to take your picks. I'd like to see blogs from PvPers, Industrialist, Pirates, Manufacturer. Lets have some variety here! I know these blogs are out there. I know a few good ones.

I'm willing to invest my time to improve things, if you're willing to do your part!

I look forward to your feedback!

The Rebirth of the EVE Blog Pack is coming...

Over the last few months I've received lots of emails from EVE Bloggers wanting to get added to the Pack. Well, if you've ever wanted to be part of that elite group of EVE Bloggers, then stay tuned.

Things are about to get really exciting.

As Cypher so elegantly put it "...fasten your seatbelt Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye!"

New to the EVE Blog Pack - Did you really want in?

Nothing gets me more excited these days than a well put together EVE blog. Seriously! OK, maybe DUST 514 and Ambulation/Walking in Station/Incarna (or whatever they'll be calling it next) does a bit more. But there's something about getting a group of EVE Bloggers together, to work on their blogs, comment on each others articles and participate in interesting, and sometimes volatile arguments. It was the idea behind the EVE Blog Pack when I first had the idea way back in June of last year, and it still is.

With the recent explosion of new EVE blogs, it was time to clean up the pack, remove the outdated blogs and welcome a few new members. When I mentioned my desire to do so in mid-August, I expected a good turnout, but nothing like I received. Picking and choosing those blogs that made it in the pack, and those who did not, was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

I've realized that we've got some goddam good writers in the EVE Blogging Community, and the Pack is just the tip of the iceberg. As such, I'd like to welcome the 19 blogs below to the Pack (see the full listing of the EVE Blog Pack members). These new members are now part of an elite team of EVE Bloggers, and have an opportunity to be in the spotlight of our little corner of the Intertubes. Lets hope they use this opportunity wisely, and remember the responsibilities that come with the membership.
Visit the EVE Blog Pack to see the full list of 40 blogs that are part of the Pack today.

Over the lifetime of the Pack, some blogs have come and gone, but all have had an influence on the Pack to some extent. Some still do. Because of this, I've chosen to give you the list of these so that you may pay them a visit.
As a friendly reminder to both new and the old Pack member, here are the To Dos that come with Pack-membership:
  • Blog regularly about EVE Online, a few times a week preferably, but at least once.
  • Comment on Pack members blogs.
  • Make a post about the EVE Blog Pack (if you haven't done so yet). Make sure to link to it!
  • Add each member's blog to your Delicious, BlinkList, Reddit, StumbleUpon and/orTechnorati accounts.
  • Digg posts that you find useful or interesting.
  • When writing a post, try to link to each other posts, bringing the community even closer together.
  • Have a blogroll listing all the Blog Pack members.
Now go forth, multiply and blog. That is your prerogative!

The EVE Blog Pack Expansion - This is your chance!

The EVE Blog Pack is over a year old by now, and despite some tweaking here and there, it's in need of some much needed TLC. Indeed, some of its members have stopped writing and over the last few months we've seen a significant increase in the number of dedicated EVE blogs - some of which are definitely Pack material. Add to that the constant influx of emails and enquiries I receive about wanting to be included in the Blog Pack.

It was time I overhauled the membership.

So today, as one contest comes to a close, I'm opening the door and giving a chance to new bloggers to join the rank of this elite EVE blogging crew. I'm also giving a chance to those outdated blogs, whose authors have neglected to feed in the last few weeks, dare I say last few months. Update those blogs, lest you'll be bumped off the Pack!

Interested bloggers simply have to submit their blog URL in the comments below, not forgetting to explain why they believe they should become a member of the Pack.

In order to be fair, I'll be increasing the number of pack members to 40 and accepting submissions until the end of the month. Come September 1st, I'll review the applicants and make my choice as to who makes the cut amongst the new members.

Rest assured, the "active" members have nothing to worry about. The ones with out of date blogs though, do. You've been warned... mouaahhahahahhaha!!!!

Good luck to all!

Have you got what it takes? 6 spots available on the EVE Blog Pack!

Having gone through the list of members of the EVE Blog Pack, I have removed 4 more blogs from the Pack. I'm trying to make sure that all Pack members are focused on EVE and post regularly. Once a blog hits the "no post in a month", I consider that the blogger in question is no longer active. So I remove them. I think that that's fair, and gives the Pack members plenty of time to post.

So, we've got 6 spots available as of today! That's quite a lot of new potential members, and that gets my EVE Online blogger's juices flowing! The EVE Mojo is strong with these bloggers. Since I first mentioned the fact we'd take some new members (back in November), many bloggers came forward. Because of my busy schedule over the past weeks, the window of opportunity for applications was greatly extended. As such, as of today here is the list of bloggers that are to be considered:
As well as,

Wow, that's 13 - correction, 15 -EVE bloggers vying for the coveted 6 spots!! And quite a list of EVE capsuleer if you ask me! The vote is open only to current EVE Blog Pack Members. Please email me at CrazyKinux[at]gmail.com with your choices (6 each).

Good luck to all of you!

So, you want to be part of the EVE Blog Pack?

Today marks the last day of what became an 8 month "sabbatical". Next Monday, I'll head to downtown Montreal to start a new career. Though I'm very excited and happy to start next week, I must admit that I enjoyed these last few months. I had time to focus my time and attention to one of my passions, both personal and virtual, and I think it paid off.

Indeed, the last few months have seen an exponential increase in both the numbers of EVE blogs, the quality of the content put out by the EVE Community, and a general feeling that we've built something unique amongst MMOs communities. It's something I'm quite proud of to have participated in, and something which is in part the result of the time I was able to dedicate to the task.

As you might expect, I will not have as much time to blog about EVE. You may have notice a decrease in the amount of posts I've published in the last few weeks. Expect this to be the new output. There's so much one man can do and still live a normal, healthy, family life.

Rest assure I will neither blogfade, nor podfade. The new schedule for MicroWarpCast will be bi-weekly, though I will still publish the EVE Speedlinks once a week (this week's should go live later today). I'm currently working on the editing of show #4, which I expect to have ready by the end of the week-end.

This is where the EVE Blog Pack comes into play. Since I won't be as prolific in my blogging, you can always count on the Pack for constant, quality content on EVE Online. This has been its purpose since day one, and continues to be so.

As such, I have made a little pre-Holiday clean-up of the list, with the result that there are now 2 openings on the Pack. I'll admit that I took the liberty of adding my good friend Black Claw's blog to the pack, as he has showed a genuine interest for several weeks. Not only that, but he has posted more than 30 articles over the last 2 months, and has been a force within the community.

What about those 2 spots you ask? They're open to anyone who has a dedicated EVE blog, which is updated regularly (at least once a week that is) and which provides great material for the community. If you think you've got what it takes, then please let me know by leaving a comment below. I'll give you 2 weeks to consider this. Then I'll ask the 27 other pack member to vote for whom they would want to add to the Pack. I won't be voting myself, as I want to leave it up the the rest of the Pack to decide.

So who will be the 2 new EVE Blog Pack members? That's up to all of you!

EVE Blog Pack Profile: Dee Carson

Here below is the another profile of one of 30 EVE Blog Pack members. I wish the idea for these profiles was mine, but it's not. This was first conceived by none other then Wilhelm2451, The Ancient Gaming Noob, as he is fondly known. Make sure you also check out Mynxee's profile over at EVE Network News and Morphisat's profile at The Ancient Gaming Noob.

More profiles to come over the next few weeks!

Name/Handle: Dee Carson

Blog site: A Miner With Fangs

Faction: None

When did you start playing EVE: October 2006

What brought you to EVE:
The changes to US laws that made playing online poker for real money so difficult (if not illegal) sent me looking for another recreational activity. Although I had been an avid gamer for many years, I had never participated in an MMOG. I tried a few, including WoW, but nothing really clicked. I don’t care for mindless grinding where you can buy a game guide at Bookstop & have all you need to know.

I stumbled upon EVE because of a web item that discussed the player-based economy, requiring that the players build what the players need in a free market economy. That was the hook that made me look deeper & see that many of the things I disliked about the other MMOGs that I had tried were absent in EVE. No shards. I didn’t have to mindlessly grind to progress skills and I had complete freedom to choose the kind of character I would have.

Play style:
I suppose you’d call me a generalist. I started as a miner (and my skill plan is pointed toward the much rumored Orca!), but I’m at least conversant in most of the major professions in Eve because of my role at Eve University. My wallet is supported by mining and production, with a little missioning with students thrown in for variety. When conflict arises, I’ll be there in a Falcon or Scorpion, frying eyeballs while the rest of the fleet does the DPS.

What keeps you playing EVE:
Two things. First of all, EVE remains the most interesting game I’ve ever played. It’s the strategy, tactics, weapons and platforms of Harpoon, mixed with the social aspects of Second Life, surrounding an economic system that is so close to real world supply and demand theory that it is studied by the real world as an dynamic, real time economic simulation. Beautiful graphics, in-depth content, sand-box play. Even with all its warts, EVE Online is unmatched as the most immersive MMOG in play today.

But that’s not the most important thing that keeps me playing.

For me, it’s all about the people. Starting with Morning Maniac, the founder and CEO of Eve University, the corporation where I currently serve as Director of Operations, the day-to-day steward of Morning Maniac’s vision. More than four years ago, Morning Maniac felt the frustration of new Eve pilots who found the complexity of the Eve Universe and the intimidating nature of the dark and dangerous setting. Rather than seeing these confused, vulnerable new pilots as prey or as a resource to be exploited, Morning Maniac saw them as students anxious to learn, but unsure of the next step.

That vision led Morning Maniac to found Eve University with a unique, and seemingly contradictory, mission. Eve University would teach any new pilot who wanted to learn, any of the various areas of interest for as long as he/she wanted to stay and then wish him/her well when they decided the time had come to move on. Students would receive skillbooks, ships, modules and instruction without charge or obligation. No forced servitude, no mandatory ops, no onerous tax levels. A group founded on the idea that their members would not stay! By design, they would be around for a short time and then move on. True altruism in a game? In a game that allowed piracy, griefing, scams, espionage and all manner of dirty tricks? It would never work! It can’t be self-sustaining!

Only, it has and it is.

More than four years later, Morning Maniac’s selfless vision remains. Eve University teaches PvP, PvE, mining, production, research, exploration, trading and all the subsets of those general areas. With more than a thousand members, we remain politically neutral, with friends and alumni in all major corporations, alliances and power blocks inside the Eve Universe.
That vision served me in the beginning and introduced me to some wonderful people from all around the world. I never envisioned a ‘game’ that would bring me friends literally from all around the world. Danes, Englishmen, Canucks, Aussies, Brazilians and all the rest. College students, service men (and women), business owners, butchers, bakers & candlestick makers. Young enough to be my children and peers with grey hair. Outlandish to conservative, prim to bawdy, serious to playful. A true slice of humanity. These are my corp mates, my friends, those that I serve and those that serve with me. They are the real reason that I keep playing Eve instead of taking up golf. Again.

What do you write about EVE:
Before I started Miner With Fangs a year ago, I had never kept a diary or journal, much less blogged. It started as a response to a request from our students to know more about the members of leadership.

I use the blog for many purposes:
What do you want people to know about EVE:
No matter what your personality, your play style or your time zone, there is a place for you in Eve. Pirate or producer. Miner or mission runner. Researcher or reprobate. There is a place for you.

Oh, that and, interweb spac3S4ipz iz serious business!

EVE Blog Pack Profile: Colonel Roc Wieler

Here below is the first profile of 30 EVE Blog Pack member. I wish the idea for these profile was mine, but it's not. This was first conceived of by none other then Wilhelm2451, The Ancient Gaming Noob, as he is fondly known.

More profiles to come over the next few weeks!

Name/Handle: Colonel Roc Wieler

Blog URL: Roc's Ramblings at http://everamblings.wordpress.com

Faction: Minmatar Republic

Started EVE: 2006

What brought me here:
My love for science fiction has been something inspired in me since I first Star Wars at the theatre as a kid. I loved the richness of the mythology, the vastness of the universe; the true sense of wonder. So naturally, I played Star Wars Galaxies the day it came out. Played dedicated for five years. The last two years though, I noticed the game was continually being dumbed down. I hate dumbed down. I enjoy depth. Someone mentioned EVE Online to me, and well, been here ever since. Even gave up Star Wars for it, my childhood love.

Playstyle:
I am a Fleet Commander for the Tribal Liberation Force, as well as recently promoted to Fleet Commander in my corp, Freeform Industries. I do missions every now and then, but my real passion is the market. Both my alts are out of the box traders, and I really enjoy the cutthroat nature of doing business. I've never mined, never even opened research or industry, and have never managed a corp. One step at a time.

What keeps me playing:
Ironically, there are two things. The first is that you don't need to be here 23/7 for fear of missing out on some huge event. That flexibility combined with real time skill training (as opposed to mindless grinding) makes it great for me. During the week, I'm a casual player, and that's just fine. The second reason I've already mentioned indirectly. Depth. Vastness. Mythology. EVE Online is so comprehensive that I am STILL catching up on my reading, just to absorb myself deeper into this universe we call home.

What I write:
My personal blog is all in character (with occasional exception). My approach to writing is a little different than most I am told. I tend to merge real life happenings with in-game happenings, with a bit of complete fantasy mixed in to throw you off. So far, it's been fun. I am also a columnist over at EVE-Mag and hope to also get an article or two into EON Magazine. That would be something.

Other Interests:
I am also a co-developer for Capsuleer, the definitive iPhone application for EVE Online. I enjoy making 3D wallpapers as well, and have contributed some to the EVE Online galleries.

What you should know about EVE:
It's intimidating when you start; overwhelming actually. It's like learning a new Operating System and learning how to live in a completely new universe all at the same time. But stick with it, seriously. The rewards are worth it.
