The Great EVE Blog Pack Clean-Up - Early 2011 Edition

It's that time of the year again. Those of you that have been reading this blog for sometime now know that every now and then I do a little clean-up operation with the EVE Blog Pack membership. Call it a "shake n' bake" ops if you will. Though I try to enforce the Pack's Rules & Regulations on a regular basis, sometimes a good good ol'fashion clean-up is just needed.

So, as I've done in the past on numerous occasions, I'll be retiring all non-active blogs, blogs that have not had a post in over a month, or who's owners have asked to be removed (yes that does happen!).

So all of you who've always wanted to be part of the Pack, this is once again a chance to be part of this elite group! Hell, I might even re-apply myself! As I tweeted yesterday, I invite you all to submit your blogs or those you enjoy who you see as a good fit for the Pack. As long as they abide by the Rules of the Pack, I'll be willing to consider their inclusion.

The New, Improved and Expanded EVE Online Blog Pack

It's original creation goes back almost 2 years, when I hand picked 18 blogs to represent the best amongst the bloggers within the young and nascent EVE Blogging Community. Over the course of the next two years this same Community would explode in numbers, quality and diversity. Today, with over 500 EVE Bloggers out there, it most likely is the biggest, most organized MMO blogging community!

As a result, the EVE Blog pack had to evolve. And though this evolution got off to a rocky start, in the end I believe that the new Blog Pack, who's members you see listed below, is stronger and more representative of what's out there in the EVE Blogging Community.

The blogs below were chosen for their quality, originality, regularity as well as potential for greatness. Some are well established blogs, some are in character (IC), others not, some try to tell a story, while others try to share advice, knowledge and experience. In the end they are all great blogs, amongst the hundred out there.

When I look at the list below, I see familiar faces, old and new. I see the voices of experience, and the determination of the rookies. For all of these blogs, I am happy to welcome you in the EVE Blog Pack.

Know that I deliberately did not link back to the original blogs. Not yet. Not on this post. The official listing of the Blog Pack still resides on that original post of June 2008. And though I'll need a bit of time over the next day or so to update that post with the additional 24 new blogs, as well as update the Google Reader RSS feed and my Blogger widget, I wanted to share the list with you! It will also serve as a permanent mark, to remind us what that listing was on this day.

And moving forward, every time I'll make important changes to the Pack, I'll make such a post to commemorate the blogs that were part of this! It's an EVE Blogging Community History, one I am not willing to forget. One which I want to remember, for past, current as well as future members of the Pack!

You lose some, you win some - The State of the EVE Blogosphere

With the recent demise of the GameScribe platform and the few hundreds or so blogs that had been specifically created for the contest, the EVE Blogroll lost a few hundred blogs or so. Which was very predictable when you understand the time, dedication and effort it takes to keep a blog going.

Despite this inevitable loss, I'm happy to report that since then, I've received 50 [make that 51 with Finders & Keepers"] new blog submissions through comments and emails. New to the EVE Blog Pack - Did you really want in?

Nothing gets me more excited these days than a well put together EVE blog. Seriously! OK, maybe DUST 514 and Ambulation/Walking in Station/Incarna (or whatever they'll be calling it next) does a bit more. But there's something about getting a group of EVE Bloggers together, to work on their blogs, comment on each others articles and participate in interesting, and sometimes volatile arguments. It was the idea behind the EVE Blog Pack when I first had the idea way back in June of last year, and it still is.

With the recent explosion of new EVE blogs, it was time to clean up the pack, remove the outdated blogs and welcome a few new members. When I mentioned my desire to do so in mid-August, I expected a good turnout, but nothing like I received. Picking and choosing those blogs that made it in the pack, and those who did not, was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

I've realized that we've got some goddam good writers in the EVE Blogging Community, and the Pack is just the tip of the iceberg. As such, I'd like to welcome the 19 blogs below to the Pack (see the full listing of the EVE Blog Pack members). These new members are now part of an elite team of EVE Bloggers, and have an opportunity to be in the spotlight of our little corner of the Intertubes. Lets hope they use this opportunity wisely, and remember the responsibilities that come with the membership.
