The New Eden Chronicles Co-Host Contest: We have Winners!

Maeve and I were very excited by the number of great entries we got, as well as their originality, and though we're a few days late in announcing our EVE Podcast Co-Host Contest results, we're happy to tell you that we've got 2 winners to announce!

After going through all the mp3 clips, picking just one winner proved to be an impossible task. We can tell you without a doubt that there's enough talent out there for many more EVE podcasts! Getting back to ours though, we ended up narrowing it down to "2" co-hosts, who will be joining Maeve and I as part of the New Eden Chronicles crew, a podcast dedicated to the EVE Community itself. So here they are,
Congratulations to the both of you!

The new podcast, New Eden Chronicles, as I mentioned, will tend to focus on the EVE Community and the amazing talent found within it. We'll cover EVE Online blogs, the EVE Blog Banters and what not, other podcasters, the artists and musicians within the community, as well as the game itself of course. Maeve and I are still working out the details and look forward to discussing this with our 2 new co-hosts in the next few days.

For the time being, we've set up a Gmail account - NewEdenChronicles@Gmail.com - for you to send in your requests and suggestions. We're also working on other ways for you to communicate with us and will let you know about those as they become available.

We look forward to your feedback and hope to have our first podcast out within the next 2 weeks!

So stay tuned, and in the mean time, please join Maeve and I in welcoming Memoocan and Ardwulf to the New Eden Chronicles cast!

Fly safe!

New EVE Online podcast in the works! We're looking for co-hosts!

Some of you may know, if not most of you, that I was once the co-hosts of The Drone Bay, a podcast that saw 25 episodes published, and a 26th recorded but never released. My fellow co-hosts during those twenty-some episodes were none other than Crovan and Alsedrech, with Crovan as the main host of the show, working with Alsedrech providing invaluable knowledge on EVE's game mechanics, and I focusing on the ever growing EVE Blogging Community. The show had a tremendous success and was an integral part of my EVE experience for over a year.

When we relaunched the show in last April, with hopes of returning to a regular schedule shortly, the trio evolved in a quartet when the talented Maeve Trinity joined us 3 stooges! Unfortunately for our fans, for Maeve and for us, the relaunch failed to take place, and The Drone Bay never again saw a new episode after its 25th, the only one in which Maeve was a part of.

That couldn't be the end of it.

The Hulkageddon Effect - An EVEPress Contest

Our friends over at EVEPress are hosting a contest from today until the 27th of July. The topic of this contest is none other then Hulkageddon III, the unofficial week and a half of torture, [where] some of the game's more vicious players band together with one common goal -- the complete eradication of mining ships. Whether you're a fan, a participant or an opponent to the event, you have to agree that it has a major impact on the game.

I'm happy to report that I've been asked to judge this first contest. Details of the event can be found on EVEPress.

Good luck to all who enter!

The Winners of the Women of EVE Contest are finally in!

In all these years running Banters and Contests, I have never seen such an overwhelming response and turn out. As such, narrowing down to just 10 entries proved to be far more difficult then I had originally expected. For the last few days, I have been starring at list of about 20 entries, unable to eliminate an entry and get the list down to the 10 winners. But it had to be done. I'll admit that the top 10 entries were randomly listed below; I just couldn't pick the best out of those 10 best entries. It's currently Tuesday 1:22AM (though I'm posting this on Monday!), my brain is shutting itself down, as I'm way past my bedtime!

So without further ado, here are the 10 winners of the "Women of EVE" Contest. Congratulations to all participants, and to these 10 bloggers in particular!
  1. The Ghost Report: Eve Blog Banter: The Girls Who Fly Spaceships
  2. “Prove It”: Women In EvE
  3. Blog Banter #17 – Women in Eve
  4. The Ladies of New Eden (An Analysis on How Men are not from Mars, & Women are not from Venus)
  5. Cloaked and Watching You: The Ladies of New Eden
  6. Space Broker: Gal-Ristas!
  7. Tech 2 stilettos
  8. It's a woman's world (they just don't know it yet!)
  9. Ladies of New Eden
  10. Lady Vengeance, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Pew-Pew
And here is a reminder of the prizes you guys have just won!
  • 1st Place: $75 in EVE Store merchandise [and 100 million ISKs]
  • 2nd Place: $50 in EVE Store merchandise [and 100 million ISKs]
  • 3rd, 4th & 5th Place: $25 in EVE Store merchandise each [and 100 million ISKs each]
  • [Additional prizes for 6th to 10th place: 100 million ISKs each]

I'll drop a comment on each of the winners post later today and ask either update their entry mentioning their win (and their email address and character names), or doing so in a new post on their blog.

Other entries worth reading:
I wish I could have had the announcement sooner that today, but RL got in the way!

Fly safe all!

Endings Are Also The Beginnings of Something New...

Or so the Semisonic song goes. And that's exactly what's about to happen to Treenara. Rest asssured I'm not leaving EVE. My recent sporadic presence in the EVE universe, whether in-game or out, is the results of RL pressure, both personal and professional. As such, I've had to make some hard decisions, set my priorities and put in place a new plan of action.

When you're as busy both in you personal, professional and virtual life, you've got to plan things, ahead of time, or else you fall short of accomplishing anything. The last month or so is proof enough. I'm now using Google Calendar, Google Docs, an alarm clock and a towel to make sure that doesn't happen again! 42 FTW!

As such, I've made the decision to leave Phoenix Labs, a corporation I've been for the most part of my EVE career. Not an easy decision. The change comes at a time where I'm looking for something different, and carebearing isn't it. And so, I've decided to join Letrange, Cozmik R5 and the rest of the boys at ChaosStorm Corporation. This carebear is going to grow some fangs! That's all I'll say about the change for now. But expect a lot more on this in future posts.

In other matters, I'm still working on choosing the winners of the Women of EVE Contest, despite what the naysayers will tell you. Expect the winners to be announced on Monday the 14th. Or else, I'll donate my body to The Blood Raiders Covenant. There, happy!

I'm also working on a bunch of other side projects such as 2 book reviews, the next blog banter, a Speedlink mega-post, cleaning up the Blogroll and adding new blogs - yes I got your requests! - adding to the Blog Pack & much, much more. All in good time!

Steady as she goes Captain - Judgment begins for the Blog Banter Contest

When I initially launched the latest EVE Blog Banter Contest - The Ladies of New Eden - I expected to get roughly the same amount of entries as with previous popular banters - maybe 40. Or maybe even as much as the last Banter Contest which was about 60. But 80 entries? Not in my wildest dreams!

As such, I'm going to need a bit more time to go through all these entries and am pushing the winners announcement up to Friday May 7th, 2010 - tough if I can do it sooner, I will.

To make up for this delay, I've decided to bump up the number of winner to 10. Not only that, but Avalloc, one of the candidates for the 5th Council of Stellar Management, was kind enough to offer 1 Billion ISKs for all 10 winners!

So, to recap the Prizes to be awarded are:

  • 1st Place: $75 in EVE Store merchandise and 100 million ISKs
  • 2nd Place: $50 in EVE Store merchandise and 100 million ISKs
  • 3rd, 4th & 5th Place: $25 in EVE Store merchandise each and 100 million ISKs each
  • Prizes for 6th to 10th place are 100 million ISKs each
I hope this will make up for the delay, and that you'll bare with me as I ponder on who are the 10 best entries out of those 80 submitted!

The EVE Blog Banter #17 Special Edition: The Ladies of New Eden

Welcome to another special installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by myself, CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to me. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

Tyrannis Planetary Interaction Winners Announcement

Like any good miner looking out for some exotic and pricey minerals in his Covetor, I recently had the difficult tasks of reading through no less than 31 entries to the Tyrannis Planetary Interaction Contest. As always, the EVE Blogging Community did not disappoint. The entries were varied in their content, their approach, their opinion. Some were descriptive, some speculative, some bloggers approached the contest through fiction, other with lists and bullets.

All in all, narrowing it down to just 5 entries was a monumental effort, one which saw me scratching my head for some time, having to drop a few more great entries in order to choose the winners. In the end, the 5 entries below, were as varied in their approach and argumentation as one would expect from a healthy, organic and dynamic blogging community such as EVE Online has. Thanks to all who partook in this contest, and congratulations to the following 5 winners who will receive a PLEX, courtesy of CCP:
As for the lucky winner who will get to interview a CCP Dev during one of The Drone Bay podcast, the honour goes to Cailais of  The hydrostatic capsule who wrote the Let the Gods be Gods! entry. Congratulations again are in order!

To all 5 winners, in order to ensure that I'll in touch with the right individuals, I ask that you write a new post in which you mention that you've won the contest, in which you will provide me with an email to reach you at. I'll then confirm your prize through email, at the address you'll have provided.

Do you have what it takes to be the next Tony Gonzales?

If you believe there's a Tony Gonzales hiding somewhere in you, waiting to come out and write some brilliant novellas such as Ruthless and Theodicy or even a novel (Empyrean Age), then this is your chance!

Silver Night is currently running the first annual fiction contest, and the prizes are pretty interesting. Hell I might even give it a try myself, if I wasn't busy running this blog! Have a look:
1st Prize: Winner's choice of any one of the following faction battleships, with a 300m fitting stipend. Choices are: Bhaalgorn, Vindicator, Rattlesnake, Machariel, Nightmare, Raven Navy Issue, Tempest Fleet Issue, Apocalypse Navy Issue, Megathron Navy Issue, Dominix Navy Issue, Typhoon Fleet Issue, Armageddon Navy Issue, or Scorpion Navy Issue.

2nd Prize: Choice of any one of the Navy Issue or Fleet Issue battleships listed above. There will be 2 second prize winners.

3rd Prize: Choice of Empire Faction Cruisers from the following list: Caracal Navy Issue, Omen Navy Issue, Vexor Navy Issue, or Stabber Navy Issue. There will be 4 3rd place winners.

So if you ever wanted to write some fiction set in New Eden, than this might just be the carrot that gets you going!

The Evolution of the EVE Blog Pack

When I first created the EVE Online Blog Pack, it had almost 20 members, all of whom I had personally requested to come on board. I had plenty of time to monitor their post frequency and quality. Being unemployed does have its benefits. That was almost two years ago!

Some time after its creation, I even went as far as to lay down some ground rules as to what it took and what was expected of an EVE Blog Pack member. I still had time to patrol the blogs, and make sure people kept their end of the agreement. Today, this is no longer the case. And at least half of the now 40-member Blog Pack blogs are outdated, haven't had a post in quite some time, or post on a very irregular schedule.

Today, this all comes to an end!

Tonight, you and I will start to lay down the foundation of a new Blog Pack. A leaner group of elite EVE Online Bloggers.

But to do this I need your help. Your input. Your opinion.

I need you to take a look at the current Pack, pick and choose the ones you want to keep, and male a list. The new Blog Pack will have 21 members. That's 20 EVE Online blogs of exceptional quality, who provide useful and helpful information to capsuleers. The 21st blog will be mine.

I also need your feedback as to who should be part of this new Pack. Who deserves to be on that list. It could be your blog, or a corpmates, or a blog that you regularly visit and find insightful. But with all the new EVE blog out there, this is something I simply cannot do alone. This is where you come in!

Please use the comments below to suggest blogs you'd like to see on the Pack. Over the next week or so, I'll review all these suggestion, make a first pass at that list, then ask you to take your picks. I'd like to see blogs from PvPers, Industrialist, Pirates, Manufacturer. Lets have some variety here! I know these blogs are out there. I know a few good ones.

I'm willing to invest my time to improve things, if you're willing to do your part!

I look forward to your feedback!

The "Why we love EVE Online" Contest List of Participants!

When I first launched this competition almost 2 weeks ago, I wanted to list all the participants at the end of that original article. But then, both CCP and Massively.com mentioned the contest (well ok, I kind of begged them too!), and I got bombarded with entries. So much so, that I thought it would be more appropriate to have them all listed here on a separate post.

Due to this overwhelming deluge of entries, I've had to come to the fact that I'll miss the deadline I had set for myself to announce the 10 lucky winners. Had the turnout been what a typical Blog Banter is - say 30-some entries - then I could have made the deadline, but 56! Fifty-freakin-six entries! I mean for Godliness of the Amarr, the Liberty of the Gallente, the Discipline of the Caldari and the Spiritual Awakening of the Minmatar, there's a very limited number of hours in a day, and I do have a day job! :p

So, I'm asking - correction - I'm letting you know that I'll have the results ready for a BIG SPLASH DOWN this next Monday, the 8th day of the month of purification, in the year 2010 C.E.. How's that!?

Take a look at the list below, and you'll understand what I'm up against! A victim of my own success if there ever was one!
