The messy line between AI-assisted and AI-generated
AI can turn an ordinary conversation into a minefield remarkably quickly—and EVE Online is no exception. Rixx and I wade into the debate from our sometimes differing perspectives, beginning with “AI slop” and the increasingly blurry line between AI-generated content and work that remains human-led but AI-assisted.
We discuss how we each use (or deliberately avoid) these tools in our creative and professional lives. Taste, experience, judgment, fact-checking and accountability don’t magically appear with a good prompt, but does every use of AI deserve to be thrown into the same bucket?
When AI enters New Eden
From there, we bring the conversation into EVE. Could Aura Guidance make New Eden easier to understand while unintentionally weakening the player relationships that make it special? How much friction can you remove before you also remove the uncertainty, mistakes and hard-earned knowledge at the heart of the experience?
We also explore the more promising possibilities surrounding Fenris Creations and Google DeepMind, including better testing, balance, accessibility, smarter PvE, economic analysis and a New Eden that feels more dynamic and genuinely inhabited. Nearly every exciting idea, however, comes with an uncomfortable question attached.
Hopeful, skeptical, and still curious
This isn’t an argument for or against AI so much as a conversation about where the lines should be drawn, who should draw them and what must be protected along the way. We remain cautiously hopeful, occasionally skeptical and fully aware that reality will probably be considerably messier than either the utopian or apocalyptic versions people like to imagine.
And then there’s that end track…
Stick around for the closing track! A suitably understated musical tribute to a certain well-known and thoroughly infamous character whose legend may be only slightly larger than his actual reputation.
