New EVE Online podcast in the works! We're looking for co-hosts!

Some of you may know, if not most of you, that I was once the co-hosts of The Drone Bay, a podcast that saw 25 episodes published, and a 26th recorded but never released. My fellow co-hosts during those twenty-some episodes were none other than Crovan and Alsedrech, with Crovan as the main host of the show, working with Alsedrech providing invaluable knowledge on EVE's game mechanics, and I focusing on the ever growing EVE Blogging Community. The show had a tremendous success and was an integral part of my EVE experience for over a year.

When we relaunched the show in last April, with hopes of returning to a regular schedule shortly, the trio evolved in a quartet when the talented Maeve Trinity joined us 3 stooges! Unfortunately for our fans, for Maeve and for us, the relaunch failed to take place, and The Drone Bay never again saw a new episode after its 25th, the only one in which Maeve was a part of.

That couldn't be the end of it.

After month of thinking about it, pondering the pros and cons, I've decided to launch a new podcast, focused on our very dynamic EVE Online Blogging Community. The exact content of the show isn't finalized, but Maeve and I have agreed that we want our focus to be on what the EVE Community does best - with such topics as the unfortunate death of Capsuleer (I'm writing a post on that for later this week), the First Person Fanfest Project, the EVE Blog Banters, the Hulkagedeon and other interesting initiatives within our blogging community. Of course, we'll have tips and advice for noobs and veteran capsuleers as well, but we'll do so by leveraging the expertise of the blogging community, by having them as guests on our shows.

But we need your help!

As I've hinted last week, Maeve Trinity and I are looking for a 3rd (and who knows, maybe a 4th) co-host to come along and spill their EVE guts for the Community's pleasures and delights! So if you've ever wanted to have your EVE Online podcast and feel as though you've got what it takes, then we need to here from you.

What do you need to do? Very simple: send in a 2 to 5 minute audio clip of you, where you either tell us why you'd make a great co-host, share some of the advice you'd share in a regular episode, or anything you think will get you noticed and picked as a co-host! You can edit the clip as you see fit, or send it in non-edited. Maeve and I will listen to every clip you send in and pick a winner!

The details:
  • The Deadline: Submit your audio clip from now until October 29th, 2010 11:59:59 EST.
  • The Format: An .mp3 file of 2 to 5 minutes in length
  • Email your clip to CrazyKinux@gmail.com with "Podcast Co-Host Contest" as the subject
  • Additional information: your tweeting/blogging name, your timezone and availability to record shows
The winner(s) will be announced by November 5th 2010.

Good luck to all!

The State of Pod: EVE Online Podcast Listing

Over the last few years, EVE Online has seen quite a few number of great podcasts done by its player community. Some, like Winterblink's and Urban Mongral's Warp Drive Active, have been around for over 3 years now!

If like me, you've been trying to keep track and find a list of ALL these podcasts, well I've decided to put a little research into it and put together such a list. I myself have had the opportunity to partake in 2 of these, The Drone Bay and Micro Warp Cast. Unfortunately, both these shows have come to an end. As of this writing, the last Drone Bay podcast recorded has yet to see the light, and may never. [UPDATE:  See the comment below. Seems that Crovan is back, and we may see some development re The Drone Bay! Will keep you posted!] As for Micro Warp Cast, the podcast I had started with @YoMma, it unfortunately suffered the fate. Sometimes RL can be a harsh Mistress.

Please feel free to let me know of other past or current EVE Podcasts, and I'll make sure to add them here. Just leave me a comment. Also, this post is a work in progress as I plan to add old and current podcasts, and add their blogs, sites or Facebook Fan pages if they exist. Now if, you'll excuse me, I have a not-so-secret podcast project I have to work on...

Outlined in Blue are active podcasts!

You still with me here?

As with many EVE Bloggers the end of the year has seen me very busy with RL (and work). I'm writing this during my lunch break, while at work. Over the last few days, I've managed to get a few hours in EVE, but at the price of not making last Friday's EVE Speedlinking post. A guy can have some fun n'est-ce pas?

No worries though, as I've decided to post the last speedlinking post of the year this week, on the last day of 2008.

Looking back at my posts over the last year, I've decided to focus a bit more on my game play over the coming year. I'll try to get back to a more personal point of view with EVE as I really enjoyed the feedback I got. Of course, I will continue maintaining the EVE Blogroll, Blog Pack and Blog Banter, as well as get back to a regular schedule for my podcasts.

Expect to see more daily posts over the next few weeks!

See you in space!

Fly Reckless Episode #9 is available

Seems this is the week where the EVE Podcasts get back to there normal schedule. After WDA, it's Silicon Buddha who's back from his Burning Man holiday, putting together a review of the last 3 weeks of the EVE-Tribune.

The EVE Blog Pack's very own Kirith Kodachi has his two Boosters articles (part 1 and part 2) read and commented by Silicon Buddha during the show.

I always enjoy listening to his show while I'm traveling through New Eden. When I can't read the EVE-Tribune articles because of lack of time, being able to listen to some of them while in game is a blessing! When you've got 20+ jumps to go through, it's nice to make use of that time well.

Fly Reckless - Another Great EVE Podcast

Well EVE Online must be doing well, because it now has a 5th regular podcast, Fly Reckless. This podcast is another one-man show, this time by Silicon Buddha.

He's already got 5 episodes done, with one pre-launch episode (#0). The first few shows were about 30-40 minutes long, though the last episode is over 90 minutes.

In Fly Reckless, Silicon Buddha covers Dev Blogs and EVE-Tribune news. I've only gone through the first two episodes, but so far I like his fly-by-the-pants style. In his About page he describes his endeavor as

... I’m going to be highlighting the fun that is to be had in EVE and spotlighting a little bit of news, a smattering of my opinion, have a few laughs and do a little bit of “seat of the pants” flying (both literally in Eve, and figuratively in doing this podcast).

...
Here is the link to the shows and to the iTunes subscription.

Looking forward to more.

Titan Weekly: A new EVE Online podcast

There's a new EVE podcast on the block folks, and it's called Titan Weekly!

I first heard about Titan Weekly late last week, when I came across a comment made by fellow Drone Bay co-host Crovan. This was then followed by Urban Mongral who mentioned the show on the last WDA podcast.

Fellow EVE player Malnor Zerchan just published his 3rd podcast earlier today, and though the show is still very wet behind the ears, you can definitely see that the quality of the show has improved in the short time since the first episode aired, two weeks ago.

The shows are compact (Ep. #3 is just under 15min) as Malnor jumps quickly into the core of the subject, without any unnecessary fluff. The purpose of the show is to provide you with a ONE STOP location to get all the major news going on in the EVE Universe, in a small 15 to 20 minute podcast, that you can listen to at work, or on your way to work, and just sitting at home, as Malnor tells us.

I certainly look forward to the next podcast and wish him all the best!

The first 3podcasts can be found here:
Make sure to give him some feedback while you're there!

The first Drone Bay podcast has been recorded

As I'm writing this we've just finished recording our first EVE podcast; The Drone Bay #01. What a humbling experience! As I sit here listening to my recording, one becomes very self conscious of all the "you know" and "MMms" one says. And boy did I do that a lot. I just hope Crovan does a good job on the editing, and removes those out.

Having said that, I loved the experience. And I believe we've got a decent pilot. It won't be perfect, and there will definitely be room for improvement, but it's a good start. Both Crovan and Aldsedrech are amazing co-hosts. I feel privileged to be doing this podcast with them. I look forward to working with them over the coming weeks, to bring you our very own EVE podcast.

Crovan will be editing it through the night, and I should have a chance to listen to the final version in the morning. I'm anxious, but excited at the same time. We're all trying to do our best in providing interesting content in an entertaining way. Will we manage to get it right? Who knows. Guess we'll have to wait and see for listener feedback.

On that note, Good night and good luck!
