AI can turn an ordinary conversation into a minefield remarkably quickly—and EVE Online is no exception. Rixx and I wade into the debate from our sometimes differing perspectives, beginning with “AI slop” and the increasingly blurry line between AI-generated content and work that remains human-led but AI-assisted.

We discuss how we each use (or deliberately avoid) these tools in our creative and professional lives. Taste, experience, judgment, fact-checking and accountability don’t magically appear with a good prompt, but does every use of AI deserve to be thrown into the same bucket?

The Safe Spot — Episode 13: Jim Halescott

This week, Rixx Javix and I sit down with Jim Halescott, one of EVE Online’s most unconventional entrepreneurs. From thousands of characters and an industrial network stretching across New Eden to an ambitious plan for something resembling a galaxy-wide chain of convenience stores, Jim has built an EVE career almost entirely outside the paths the game officially gives us. What sounds absurd at first gradually reveals itself as a remarkably sophisticated operation involving manufacturers, haulers, intelligence gatherers, market manipulation and hundreds of working relationships.

After a nearly month-long hiatus, Rixx and I are back from the summer lull and easing into one of those deceptively simple EVE questions that quickly opens up into something much bigger: what does it actually mean to win in a game that never really ends? 

We start with vacation, heat, and the usual New Eden summer slowdown, then wander into sandbox metaphors, piracy, loss, leadership, friendship, aging, and why EVE is less a game you beat than a place you keep returning to.

No guest this week — just Rixx and me catching up, comparing notes, and accidentally wandering into one of those bigger EVE conversations: what actually makes the game work after all these years. I honestly can't believe we've hit double digits. Most podcast series — EVE or otherwise — never make it past the first handful before fading out, so the fact that Rixx and I are still here, still recording, and still having an absolute blast feels like a milestone worth celebrating. 

And we're not slowing down. No siree, Bob! 

We've got so much more in store.

So, in this episode we welcome Black Rise Regional News — let's call him "Burn" short for BRRN — to The Safe Spot. Burn is a Caldari faction warfare pilot, UCN director, and the creator behind one of EVE's most unique written content projects: a regional newspaper covering the wars, politics, and shenanigans of Black Rise and surrounding space. 

Rixx and I dig into how Burn went from flu-ridden backlog gamer to militia diplomat and propagandist-in-chief, and I listen in while the two of them swap faction warfare war stories along the way. 

I mostly listened and took notes on this one — these two had a lot to talk about!

The Safe Spot — Episode 9: "Featuring Oz"

Hey everyone, we're back after what felt like forever. I got pulled into the Habs' Stanley Cup run (no shame, that was a hell of a series for our Montreal Canadiens), and we finally sat down for episode 9 with our very first official guest: Oz. 

Both Rixx and I were genuinely stoked about opening the format up to guests, and even more so that Oz agreed to be the first one through the door. I came in with way too many questions lined up like a checklist, and Rixx, true to form, just rolled with the conversation in full Buccaneer bravado. 

Very different styles, yet somehow it worked. 

The Safe Spot — Episode 8: "Our EVE Fanfest 2026 reaction"

This one's our reaction episode to EVE Fanfest 2026, which wrapped up the day before we recorded. Rixx and I sat down Sunday evening to talk through everything — the Polaris Award he picked up while not even being in Iceland, the Cradle of War reveal, the Google DeepMind sit-down, where Vanguard and Frontier are headed, and a pile of asides along the way. 

It's a long one, but a good one. 

Pour something cold (or hot, in Rixx's case) and dig in.😂

The Safe Spot — Episode 7: "Pearl Abyss & Fanfest"

Big news this episode — Pearl Abyss is selling CCP Games back to its own leadership team, and Rixx and I break down what that means for EVE Online, Frontier, and Vanguard. 

We also look ahead to Fanfest 2026 (which neither of us is attending this year, don't judge), swap some FanFest war stories from years past, geek out over the EVE Faction Warfare Yearbook, touch on the brand-new Capsuleer Days event, and Rixx shares a couple of PvP encounters that remind us all why you check local and never fly what you can't afford to lose.

The Safe Spot — Episode 6: "Exordium | Training wheels don't teach you how to crash"

In episode 6, Rixx and I dig into the biggest EVE Online announcement in a while — CCP's Exordium, a 53-system PvP-free region for new players. We've got strong opinions, open questions, a healthy dose of skepticism, and a quick recap of the latest Frigate Free-For-All. I was also fresh off a trip to France and still a bit jetlagged, so bear with me.

The Safe Spot — Episode 5: "Bad Patch"

In this episode, recorded back on March 24th, Rixx and I dive into what happens when CCP pulls the rug out from under your favorite ship mid-stride. Rixx has been on a PvP tear, stacking up fights and cracking the mystery of his disappearing video recordings, while I'm still reeling from the Catalyst major update that basically nerfed my entire gameplay loop. 

We get into patch notes philosophy, Pochven lore, blockade runners, abyssal arenas, and why the best advice in EVE often comes from the guy who just blew you up.

The Safe Spot — Episode 4: "FF4A & Beyond"

In this episode, Rixx and I catch up, announce some exciting podcast distribution news, then dive deep into Stay Frosty's legendary Frigate Free For All (FF4A) event. 

I also share the story of my first real hauling adventure in low sec — complete with the sweaty palms and the adrenaline rush — and Rixx drops some hard-earned wisdom on surviving gate camps, dealing with AFK mistakes, and not panicking when things go sideways. 

We wrap up by talking about Rixx's new weekly show, Pirate's Corner, and the importance of opening up and sharing stories with the community.

The Safe Spot — Episode 3: "More Questions"

Episode 3 of The Safe Spot is here! This one was all about me bringing my "dumb newbro questions" to Rixx and getting real, practical answers from a veteran pirate who's been living the lowsec life for almost two decades now. 

I spent the weekend of February 14-15th not actually playing EVE but doing the metagame — researching skills, reorganizing assets, and realizing my stuff is scattered across New Eden like a space hoarder. 

So naturally, I came to the show with a list of things I needed to figure out, from picking a home system to knowing when I'm actually ready for PvP.

Here's what we got into.

The Safe Spot — Episode 2: "The Depths of Eve Online"

Since you can't call it a podcast series without a few episodes, here's Episode 2 of The Safe Spot! In this episode, Rixx and I went deep — maybe a little too deep. We barely touched the agenda (again, I know!), but what we did cover was worth every detour. 

I'm still peeling back layers of New Eden, Rixx shared the full story of how he became one of lowsec's most notorious pirates, and we somehow ended up talking ship skins, Pochven, and the philosophy behind why EVE hooks us the way it does. Oh, and I introduced Rixx to end the show. Yeah, go figure!

This special episode was originally supposed to have a few segments, including the only one that made it in the final episode. At almost 90 minutes, the interview that Memoocan and I did, managed to take over the whole show, and as such no other segments were recorded. Interviewed during this show were Mike Read, aka CCP Daishi, who is Director of Events and Convetions at CCP Games, and Ned Coker, aka CCP Manifest, the man behind most of EVE Online's PR!

During the show we had a chance to learn how both of them managed to infiltrate the Icelandic behemoth that is CCP Games today, and it made for some great story telling - then again, Mike is well known to enjoy telling a good story, his story! We also covered CCP's new willingness to help out Fan gatherings and other community driven initiatives. Mike was/is all over that one! A good chunk of time was also spent talking about PAX East 2011 and EVE Fanfest 2011 (#evefanfest), both of which are coming up in over the next 2 weeks.

Overall a great show!

New Eden Chronicles Episode #1 - The beginnings!

Well it's finally here! The first episode of the New Eden Chronicles - an EVE Online podcast dedicated to showcasing the EVE Blogging Community in all it's talent and glory.

Though we had a few technical difficulties recording this first show, Ardwulf's brilliant editing skills and Maeve's keen ears have managed to result in a pretty decent first podcast. Released earlier this week, we're still waiting for Apple's iTunes to provide us with a link and all, but you can listen and download it via our PodBean blog. Here's the direct link to Episode One.

In this first episode we introduced the 4 co-hosts, Maeve Trinity, Memoocan, Ardwulf and myself. We discuss several aspects of the EVE Blogging Community, present 2 interviews and have a first jolly good time. As new episodes get released, we'll have a more structured approached and work out the various kinks.

I'm very happy that we're finally at this stage and thankful to be working with my three co-hosts.

The New Eden Chronicles Co-Host Contest: We have Winners!

Maeve and I were very excited by the number of great entries we got, as well as their originality, and though we're a few days late in announcing our EVE Podcast Co-Host Contest results, we're happy to tell you that we've got 2 winners to announce!

After going through all the mp3 clips, picking just one winner proved to be an impossible task. We can tell you without a doubt that there's enough talent out there for many more EVE podcasts! Getting back to ours though, we ended up narrowing it down to "2" co-hosts, who will be joining Maeve and I as part of the New Eden Chronicles crew, a podcast dedicated to the EVE Community itself. So here they are,

• Ardwulf, who's blog Ardwul's Lair I have read and enjoyed for years

Congratulations to the both of you! 

The new podcast, New Eden Chronicles, as I mentioned, will tend to focus on the EVE Community and the amazing talent found within it. We'll cover EVE Online blogs, the EVE Blog Banters and what not, other podcasters, the artists and musicians within the community, as well as the game itself of course. Maeve and I are still working out the details and look forward to discussing this with our 2 new co-hosts in the next few days.

For the time being, we've set up a Gmail account - NewEdenChronicles@Gmail.com - for you to send in your requests and suggestions. We're also working on other ways for you to communicate with us and will let you know about those as they become available.

We look forward to your feedback and hope to have our first podcast out within the next 2 weeks!

The State of Pod: EVE Online Podcast Listing

Over the last few years, EVE Online has seen quite a few number of great podcasts done by its player community. Some, like Winterblink's and Urban Mongral's Warp Drive Active, have been around for over 3 years now!
If like me, you've been trying to keep track and find a list of ALL these podcasts, well I've decided to put a little research into it and put together such a list. I myself have had the opportunity to partake in 2 of these, The Drone Bay and Micro Warp Cast. Unfortunately, both these shows have come to an end. As of this writing, the last Drone Bay podcast recorded has yet to see the light, and may never. 

[UPDATE:  See the comment below. Seems that Crovan is back, and we may see some development re The Drone Bay! Will keep you posted!] As for Micro Warp Cast, the podcast I had started with @YoMma, it unfortunately suffered the fate. Sometimes RL can be a harsh Mistress.
