After Hours, Episode 3 (2016): Rixx Javix and I talk EVE Online, EVE blog banters, and community weirdness

The above is "After Hours Podcast – Episode 3", and it’s a nearly-decade-old (May 2016) chat between the infamous pirate Rixx Javix, and myself — looking back on the “golden age” of EVE blogging and how that whole scene shaped a lot of us.

I came across that old episode while researching for an upcoming project on EVE Online podcasts, past and present (more on that later).

In that episode, Rizz and I reminisce about the old days: the EVE Blog Pack, EVE Blog Banter, and that slightly ridiculous moment where it felt like there were hundreds — yes, hundreds! — of active EVE blogs all cross-linking, arguing, and building a real little corner of the internet together. And then we talk about what changed: social media grabbed a lot of the day-to-day conversation, blogs got quieter, but the community didn’t vanish — it just migrated into new spaces (Twitter, Slack, whatever the “town square” was that year).

I also explain why I stepped back from posting as much once I moved into the game industry — when you work in games, publicly blogging about another developer’s MMO gets… complicated.

Meanwhile, Rixx gives a snapshot of where EVE was at that moment (the big shifts on the horizon, new structures, CCP’s evolving openness, the constant promise that the sandbox is about to get shaken like a snow globe).

Re-listening now, it feels like a time capsule: not just of EVE, but of how we used to build community online — slower, longer-form, more “write a post and let it simmer,” before everything became waves of quick takes rushing past.

Here's hoping that this EVE Community magic can be rekindled. One post, one Bluesky tweet, one podcast episode at a time. And if I can help in making that happen, I'll be delighted!

fly safe, or die trying...
