The greatest EVE Online Manual now available in meatspace!

Stop using that printer at work over your lunch break to print the ISK Guide in 50-pages chunks. Instead, order the new printed version from MMM Publishing. Do it before April 14th pre-order deadline and save 5$. Here are additional details:
As most of you know, we released the ISK 3.0 Guide in February as a free download – to huge critical acclaim. [ISK = Industrial-Sized Knowledgebase]. This is the exhaustive manual, which EVE has been crying out for since 2003!
Since the release of that free PDF edition, we’ve been inundated with requests for a printed version, a physical product you can hold, pick up and refer to either AFK or while playing the game. We’ve listened, and we’ve responded.
So here it is; ISK Volume 1 as a physical product is now available to pre-order. This monumental near 400 page wiro-bound volume covers everything there is to know about EVE – whether you’re on a 14-day trail account or you’re an experienced long-termer. As a special offer for the early birds among you, there’s even a $5 discount for all pre-orders; in order to receive the discount you MUST apply the code ISK305. If you don’t see the discount being applied immediately, check again before completing your order.
The pre-order period (and therefore the $5 discount) lasts until April 14th. Click here and we’ll take you right along to the Store…
Now hurry-up and pre-order it. You know you want to!

The Ultimate Guide to EVE Online - ISK Guide 3.0 [FREE]

Late last week, I was ask to share with you some good news from our friends at MMM Publishing. Now I'm  usually not the type to repost directly information that's being past on to me, but hey, this is EON, this is the "new and improved ISK Guide" and hell, it's FREE! So without further ado, and even though you may have already seen it on a few other blogs, here is the low-down!

ISK 3.0 - INDUSTRIAL-SIZED KNOWLEDGEBASE
The ultimate strategy guide for EVE players, from the makers of EON magazine
London, England - January 6, 2011 - MMM Publishing, a leading publisher of online gaming
magazines, has announced a new "EON Presents..." publication for players and fans of the award-winning science fiction universe EVE Online. This February "EON presents... ISK 3.0" will be released as a free pdf download, offering all EVE players the most exhaustive and expansive strategy guide that's ever been compiled in the game's eight year history.
Like previous "EON Presents..." projects (EVE Strategic Maps, EVE Career Guide), the ISK 3.0 guide is a collaborative effort between EVE players, CCP Games and the design and editorial teams of MMM Publishing. Previous versions of the "Industrial-Sized Knowledgebase" have been downloaded by almost 40,000 EVE players and the vast compendium is considered by many to be EVE's de facto player manual.
The new expanded ISK guide has been updated to include recent changes brought to EVE
Online as part of the Incursion expansion, including adaptions to character creation, skill training
and planetary interaction. It has also been completely redesigned to be easier to read and reference important sections, with new images and tables within established chapters on getting
started, ship fitting, manufacturing, trading, exploration and combat. "EVE players have been crying out for a comprehensive strategy guide since the game first came out" says EON editor Richie Shoemaker. "With ISK 3.0 people are going to realise that the wait has been worthwhile. Compiled over many, many months it's an incredible piece of work that we're proud to help bring to EVE players."
Beyond the release of ISK 3.0 the team will begin work on a premium edition of the guide that
will be available to buy as a digital publication alongside EON Digital. The extended 500-page
guide will also be available to pre-order from the EVE Store as an exclusive and limited edition
print publication. Price and publication details will be announced at a later date.
"Creating ISK has been a labour of love for many months and we intend to keep updating and
releasing newer and better versions of the guide for as long as people want to read them"
said ISK’s creators Gábor Várkonyi and László Lipták. "Our dream is to eventually have a
professionally published edition in my hand and after having published EON magazine for six
years, MMM Publishing are the best people to make that dream come true."
ISK 3.0 Lite Edition will be freely available as a pdf file from February 1, 2011 from
www.isktheguide.com, www.eve-files.com and all good EVE fansites. The digital and print
Premium Edition will follow in the spring.

EON Issue #021: 2010 - Table of Content

Though I've yet to receive my copy of the 21st issue of EON, I thought I'd share with you the content that was forwarded to me by the editors.

I can't wait to get my copy as this issue is filled with content that's dear to me: the EVE Storyline and the EVE Fanfest! The EVE universe is a fascinating place and the EVE Chronicles have allowed us to learn a bit more about this dark and hard place we capsuleers call home. I've even stated in the past, and reiterate here, that I'd love to see some hardcover book on EVE - similar to those big fat beauties from Pathfinder.

As for the upcoming Fanfest, I'm already looking at my possible itinerary and maybe extending my vacation a few more days to spend it with MrsCK somewhere in Europe! How about you? Will you attend the Party t the Top of the World next March?

IT’S STORYTIME
It’s always been there, but EVE’s storyline has never been the most overt aspect of the New Eden universe. All that’s set to change with Incursion, as CCP is looking to bring the back-story firmly to the front. With player events back on the agenda and everyone from the mightiest 0.0 alliance to the lowliest high-sec miner invited to take part, it looks as if your reasons for doing what you do are about to get ever more dramatic.

CONSTRUCTING FANFEST
As we wait patiently for 2011’s extravaganza on the roof of the planet, we take a trip back in time through Fanfests of old to discover how they came to be, why they came to be and who came to... uh, be them. Whatever. The moments that made CCP realize getting a large group of its players together under one darkened roof was all worthwhile, the lessons learnt, and what we can expect from future trips to the sunny shores of, er, Iceland.

SURVIVING EVE
Of course we love EVE more than life itself, but that doesn’t mean that life should be neglected in the pursuit of one more can-flip or podkill. We take time out from staring at the monitor to examine ways to step back, smell the flowers and still appreciate our beloved game for all its worth but without becoming totally burnt out in the process. Remember traveller, a healthy capsuleer is a happy capsuleer and vice versa.

THE 50M ISK CHALLENGE
Give a bunch of pilots a (relatively) small lump of cash, tell them to spend it on whatever ship and fittings they think are best and record the results. Following Issue #019’s 200 million ISK ship-building challenge, we thought we’d try it again but with a more modest amount. You’ll be surprised just how far a tiny budget goes in New Eden’s chop-shops these days.

PLUS

  • The Mod Delusion – how EVE’s greatest fans are taking New Eden into other game engines
  • ‘Condemned To Repeat’ – an all-new, exclusive Chronicle of espionage and deceit from Danny Schalit
  • In depth ‘Insider’s Guides’ to Militia Fleets, getting the most from EVE’s communication tools and the first of a multi-part look at Drones
  • Interviews with EVE TV veteran and CCP Video Producer Stevie Ward and Technical Director and ‘Lag Warrior’ CCP Yokai
  • Behind the characters of Silentbrick, Niccolado Starwalker and Sakura Nihil
  • Profiles of Art Of War Alliance and Veneratio Venator Alliance
  • The latest news from CCP and the latest reports from 0.0 space
  • Postcards, Funnies, My Two ISK and much more

Oh, and there’s one more thing... E-ON is going digital, but they’re not abandoning the hard-copy magazine – far from it. As a special incentive, ALL subscribers to the hard-copy edition will receive FREE access to the coming-soon E-ON Digital, which will be able to be viewed online or offline on a PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Android device. The print edition will still retain its glossy-page collectability, but the digital version will enable us to bring new features such as full archive searching, lower cost and instant availability. Go tell the world, E-ON Digital is coming soon...

EON Issue #018: 2010 - Table of Content

I'm usually pretty quick to post the Table of Contest of the current issue of EON whenever I get them. But somehow, this one slipped through and when I saw that some of us had received issue #019, I was ecstatic, went in to check the EON ToC listing I've put together, only to realize issue #018 was still missing!

This is even more surprising since the 3 lead articles in that particular issue are some of the best writing I've seen so far in EON. You see, all 3 were written by good friends of mine, @Mynxee's "Sisters of EVE", @Zptr's "2010" and @Nyphur's "Combat Evolving". As well as articles by @KirithKodachi and @RocWieler.

For those of you already subscribed, or who've had the chance to flip through one of its issues during Fanfest, you know that EON stands out as one magazine above the rest. While other print publications facing extinction, EON leads the way as an MMO-specific gaming magazine, where members of the community can participate in its creative process!

PAST FORWARD
For the last couple of months all people have been talking about is sovereignty. Sov this. Sov that. Sov the other. Being such an important part of EVE that’s understandable, which is why we’ve devoted much of this issue to this very emotive subject. From a detailed look back at how conquest mechanics have shaped New Eden, to our regular look at the ongoing wars out in 0.0, we go one further and ponder the future of EVE in 2010, starting with the fallout from the Dominion release all the way to what we might see in the expansions over the coming months.

THE REAL SISTERS
It’s been rumoured that females play EVE. Not just pretend ones with female avatars who sound weird on TeamSpeak, but real ones who can do something called ‘multitasking’. Mynxee is one such creature and she’s made it her mission to seek out others of her species to find out what it is about EVE that appeals to them and what their experiences of EVE are like. Meanwhile, two of CCP’s most testosterone-free Devs reveal themselves in the latest series of In Crowd articles.

STAR GUIDES
Even if we do say so ourselves, the role-playing guide in this issue is particularly excellent. Why? Because it cuts to the very essence of what role-playing is and prepares you for a deeper and more satisfying EVE experience, as do our other three guides; to EVEmon, Singularity and jump clones.

FREE POSTER
It seems you guys loved the Caldari Cruisers poster we gave away with issue #016, so we’ve decided to do another one! This time (while stocks last) subscribers will receive a massive 841mm x 594mm wall chart showing all the Amarr Cruiser hulls (Tech I, Tech II and Faction) and how they relate to one another, so that you can spot the cosmetic and functional differences between the common Augoror and the Navy Issue variant with a simple glance. ‘Show Info’ has become a thing of the past, thanks once again to paper technology!

The Oracle of EVE - An EON contest!

Have you ever dreamed of what EVE Online could be, or should be? Ever wondered what EVE could be in a 10 years, 5 years, or even next year? Well here's your chance to prove that you've got that game designer flame burning in you! It's little contest, simple in its elegance, and pleasurable in its rewards!

Looking ahead to 2010, come up with either realistic predictions of new EVE features, or wild speculations of what might happen in game during the course of the year.

What we're looking for here are the best, most accurate and entertaining, well constructed pieces of speculative reporting ever concocted about EVE Online, And the best 10 will make into the next issue of EON magazine, which comes out early January. Not only that, but I've been told that for those winners attending the next Fanfest, the folks at MMM Publishing will even chip in a beer token!

These 10 best articles will be hand-picked by myself and EON Editor, Mr Zapatero himself!

Here are the Rules and Regulations:
  • Your article has to be between 350 and 400 words. No more. No less.
  • Stick to one prediction / one subject per 400 words.
  • No formatting (no lists, bullet points etc).
  • Take one in-game screenshot to illustrate your prediction. If it's in-space, please have it as high-res/spiffeh as possible.
  • The 10 articles picked will each cover different subject (no more than 1 article about Incarna will be picked. We're looking for variety here!).
  • Write your article on your blog, post the URL in the comments below.
The Prizes:
  • Your article gets published in the January 2010 EON issue.
  • You get a free copy of that EON issue
  • One FREE beer token for next year's EVE Fanfest
The contest starts today and ends on November 30th EDT. The 10 winners will be announced the following week!

Here's a limited list of ideas to get your fingers twitching on your keyboards:
  • The EVE economy in 2010
  • Fanfest in 2010 and why people should go
  • Incarna
  • What will happen to out portraits once Incarna is released?
  • It's been too long since we've had new ships
  • The next Summer expansion
  • How the political map of EVE might change in 2010
  • The CSM in 2010
  • Will Chribba still be the King of EVE?
  • Who are the rising stars of EVE: The names to look out for in 2010 and why
  • Who will dominate in the alliance tournament

  • Looking forward to Dust 514

So, are you up to the challenge?

EON Issue #017: DUST 514 - Table of Content

In this day and age of the InterTubes, it's nice to walk away from the digital world, find a nice quiet spot in the house, sit down on a comfy couch with a nice alcoholic beverage (say a Taylor Fladgate port or a Grand Marnier) and start reading a high quality, visually stunning & intelligently edited magazine such as EON.

You may think that I'm stretching the truth here, just for the sake of you the reader, but the opposite is actually the case. EON has become an integral part of my EVE experience. And these days, with the sort of schedule that I have, it's a real treat roam through its A4-sized pages.

This latest issue - "EON #017 DUST 514" - is no exception to the rule. And with the lead article on the new and upcoming EVE console first-person shooter, how could it not be interesting!

IN DUST WE TRUST

For console gamers DUST 514 promises to be the most unique shooter ever
devised, but for those of us already fighting between planets what will it
mean to have hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, fighting on the
ground? A crack squad of E-ON special forces capture CCP to find out how the
EVE FPS will fuse with EVE Online, plus we get the views of players to see
if they are as excited about DUST 514 as they should be.

THREE CHRONICLES

Officially, the early days of Amarrian expansion were a time of glory for
New Eden's largest empire, while today the worlds within the factional
warzones are seen as frontiers that will one day reward the brave pioneers
that have tried to tame them. The problem with official versions of events
past and present is that they are very often wrong, as evidenced by three
new chronicles in this issue of E-ON, which show a very different side to
life on the frontiers of New Eden.

TRUST FUNDS

Players have never been as rich as they are currently, yet the status of
banks in the New Eden economy has never looked bleaker after a string of
high-profile trust issues that have left the industry in tatters. Player
economist and blogger LaVista Vista delves into the history of banking in
EVE to see if it has a future and what it might look like.

EON #016 - Table of Content

This is going to sound like a record skipping, but I've been late, really late that is, in posting the Table of Content for the latest issue of EON.

It's nothing to do with my enthusiasm for this fine piece of mashed-up tree pulp and chemical stains. Au contraire. I again have to blame this game called First Life. Seems the arrival of a RL clone once again has disrupted my current daily schedule.

Add to that the fact that I had to rebuild my PC, and recently lost my broadband connection, and we can start to imagine that the folks on Olympus have promised to make my life difficult.

But rest assured, I am starting to get control back. Slowly but surely, things are being worked out. The new PC is built. My phone/digitalTV/broadband provider, Bell Canada, is sending two of its technician tomorrow to get us back on track.

I can see the light at the end of the wormhole!

EON #015 - Table of Content

I'm was usually pretty quick to post the EON table of content when I got my issues in the past. Unfortunately I was still very much taken away by Real Life's responsibilities when I got the 15th issue of our beloved magazine.

Once I got it though, I was quickly caught-up in the richness of this latest issue. It's got some great articles ranging from Finnigan's Quaterly Alliance Report, to the Clear Skies II interview, to the brilliant and no less scary "The End?" essay on the possible Big Crunch of New Eden. And lets not forget the chronicles, the "Beginner Ships" article, and much more.

All in all, an issue that everyone who's put an effort into, should be proud of! When anyone in the press cries wolf saying that Print media is on the verge of implosion, I look at my issues of EON and shake my head.

Good work Zapatero! Great results guys!

EON #014 - Table of Content

I finally got my issue of EON sometime last week. I say finally because I'd been waiting for it patiently for quite sometime now, seeing through Twitter that for others, the wait was over.

I'm always a little impatient once I know the the latest issue has been mailed and that it's only a question of time before I can get my print-fix of EVE. Those one or two weeks before I see that white plastic envelope in my mailbox are almost heart breaking though. I kid you not!

But this was even more so for this 14th issue, since I had written the Fanfest article, and just couldn't wait to see how it had turned out, once Zapatero had sprinkled some of that magic pixie dust with his flashy editing! It is my opinion that I did not wait in vain, and the whole issue turned out amazing!

This issue has seen some great contribution from some of the members of the EVE Blog Pack: Zapatero, Flashfresh, Karox Lominax, Winterblink and I. Good work guys!

I'm still going through the issue at this moment, and will likely read the Chronicles last, as I like to take them in nice and slow. A quiet evening once all are off to bed, a glass of port or Grand Marnier, and a few hours to dive into EVE fiction! Gives me goose bumps!

EON Issue #014 is traveling the snail gates of Gaia

It's not every day that you get to see your name printed on the official EVE Online site - twice on the same day! - and I'm not referring to the forum section and all that CK spam! For this latest issue of EON, I had the pleasure of being tortured by Zapatero to write... let rephrase that. I had the honor of writing about my experience at the EVE Fanfest 2008, which was a first, and hopefully not the last, for me.

It was a lot of fun to think back and relive some of those memories in order for me to write that article. Fanfests are an amazing experience, which everyone and anyone involved in EVE should live at least once!

Hopefully with the article, I'll manage to share enough of the experience to get your mojo flowing and get you to travel to the top of the world, in a cold, cloudy and humid realm, and have the best time of your life!

See you there in November!

Here's what else to expect in this latest issue of EON.

THE JOY OF TECHS

This issue we peer into the imminent future (or look to the very recent past, depending on whether you’re reading this before or after 10th March 09), at the building blocks of the many thousands of potential Tech III ships that will be appearing via explorable wormholes as part of EVE's tenth expansion this coming spring. With CCP providing the parts, we ask how the ships will be glued together, how their attributes will be determined and what special features might make them worth investing in when the time comes. We theorise at what might be at the end of the wormholes themselves that are making Tech III a possibility.

FIRST-TIME FANFEST

After one of the most spectacular Fanfests so far, EVE blogger CrazyKinux re-lives the experience of what was his first; from the puzzled look from friends and family concerned for his sanity for wanting to travel to Iceland to meet a bunch of spaceship nerds, to the mild hangover after four days of blowing away every preconception they had. Without giving too much away, we reckon CK quite enjoyed his first trip to Fanfest.

THE ONE AND ONLY

While much of this issue focuses on the future and looking ahead to Tech III, we remember that Tech I still has much to offer: in Testflight, Sivona climbs aboard EVE's unloved logistics cruisers to see if they have a role on the modern battlefield, whilst Karox Lominax escapes the melee and rustles up a guide to manufacturing and production.

EON #013 - Table of Content

Last Friday, after what seemed to be the longest wait ever, I finally got my copy of the 13th issue of EON.

You figure that Europe must be moving away from North America, because it takes less time to travel to the moon and back, then it does to ship a magazine across the Atlantic!

But anyways, enough of my whining! This latest is full of great articles, chronicles and more. The Insider's Guide on Factional Warfare, the economy and cartography are brilliant pieces. There's also tidbits of information on the EVE RPG and board game (Conquest), EVE Tribune and of course the main article on Quantum Rise, the next expansion.

I have yet read the chronicles, which returned in this issue - The High Garden and Before - but I promised to let you know my thoughts once I have. I can't wait for the special "EON Chronicles" issue to come out. EVE Fiction FTW!!

EON Issue #013 should be on its way soon

Well it looks like the latest issue of my favorite magazine is about to ship out. The EON store was updated earlier this week, as was Zapatero's blog, who also got a major overhaul. Nice job Zapatero! Now you just need to find some time in your schedule to blog more often.

Getting back to EON though, it seems that we'll be getting a few more details on the upcoming Midas Expansion, which is the next one to be released. Where's Ambulation then? I can't wait for both, and though Ambulation will certainly add to the experience, Midas will have a greater impact on the game. As such, I can't wait to read about it and start planning for it.

    Carebears FTW!

So here's what we can look forward to in this next issue:

    SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE

The theme for this issue of E-ON is the economy. Yes, we know it's all doom and gloom in the real world, but in EVE things are actually doing OK. Thing is, not everyone understands how it all works, yet perhaps we all should, beyond the buy low/sell high mantra that some like to wheel out to prove they've got it all figured out.

Like some great unseen power, the economy of EVE surrounds and penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together. Luckily we've found someone who can teach us all about its mysterious ways without continually putting nouns before adjectives and spouting lots of voodoo nonsense... and he isn't all that diminutive either. And, no, we're not referring to CCP Chronotis, who kindly lets us in on CCP's thinking behind what will be the focus of the coming winter expansion, and why even those who might have already dismissed it as one for carebears should sit up and take notice.

    CHRONICLES ARE BACK

After a short break from fiction last issue, we have two new Chronicles for you to enjoy - ‘The High Garden’ and ‘Before’. Not only that but all subscribers to the magazine will get a collection of six postcards adorned with classic E-ON Chronicle artwork sent for free with their caring, sharing E-ON. It's actually been a fair while since we gave away postcards - it was back with the second issue of E-ON in early 2006, which also had a great chronicle picture on page 56. No, wait, come back!

    BIASNESS AS USUAL

The EVE Tribune has been reporting on what's been going on in and out of EVE almost as long as E-ON has, rummaging through the bins of EVE's rich and famous and upsetting all and sundry with war reports that may or may not be as accurate as some would like. Love 'em or hate 'em, they deserve a lot of respect though, and E-ON duly steps up to tell the tale of Tribune. Mr M doesn't reveal all on page three, but he comes close.

    A GUIDING HAND

As if a guide to EVE's economy wasn't enough, we have Sivona trying out the best Faction Cruisers, a meandering and enlightening journey through Factional Warfare and a run through all the methods that you can employ to figure out where to go, and how to plan, in EVE should you be in travelling mood.

    PLUS

Details of the EVE: Conquests board game The first Quarterly Alliance Report Profiles on Mercenary Coalition, Paxton Federation and Caeruleum Alliance CCP's Lingorm and Mindstar talk QA Jade Constantine's links (that sounds so wrong) ...and lots of other stuff

Don't forget those great, free Chronicle art postcards (for subscribers only)

EON #012 - Table of Content

EON Issue 011The unbearable wait ended yesterday afternoon when I received my copy of EON issue #12 in which I wrote the cover article "Mining Evolved". It's without a doubt the lengthiest article/post/feature I've ever written on EVE, and was a lot more work than I had anticipated.

I feel as though I'm walking with giants in this issue, with the likes of Nate Combs (TerranTus Novallum), Zapatero, Sivona and Benilopax having penned articles. Hopefully, I haven't made a fool of myself, and my humble efforts will give me the opportunity to repeat the experience.

    /crosses his fingers...

As a side note, if you're interested in reading one other player's perspective on the current state of Mining in EVE, I highly recommend that you read Nyphur's article over at Massively.com entitled "EVE Evolved: Mining, the forgotten profession".

EON Issue #012 should be here any day now!

The latest issue of EON magazine shipped out of the UK on July 4th, last Friday. So it should be here any day now. I think I've checked the mailbox at least 3 times a day since Tuesday. This is a special issue for me.

You see, yours truly, has penned the cover article for the issue. With some great editorial help from Zapatero, I've written the article on the history of Mining. So I'm a little anxious to see the final results.

Hopefully it'll come out not too bad. I guess you'll be the judge of that! Here's what to expect in this next issue:
LET'S ROCK Mining is a profession that has been cruelly overlooked by E-ON, and in-game miners have been looked upon with disdain by a great many. CCP itself admits it's a part of EVE that's been left to its own devices for a touch too long. In the face of such wanton ignominy, this issue we give some love back to the grime-faced mineral extraction technicians of New Eden by looking at how mining has changed, what the profession means to EVE in general and hint at what changes lie ahead.

HUGE FREE POSTER OF THE UNIVERSE
Two years ago we gave away a free poster featuring a map of New Eden and an update has been long overdue. This issue we're proud to be able to give away to our subscribers a new, even bigger version. At A1-size (841 x 594mm) it will include notice of outposts, security information, jump lines and Faction Warfare regions, system and region jump lines and of course region names. It certainly won't have the same kind of depth as the new EVE Strategic Maps book, but will certainly be complimentary to it, and will look very cool on any wall regardless. Remember, it's for subscribers only.

    COUNCIL MEETING
With the freshly-interred members of the Council of Stellar Management having returned from their first meeting with CCP, as well as reporting on what transpired, we ask whether what went on was just a bit of a chat or the beginning of a revolution for virtual worlds.

    THREE INSIDER GUIDES
In a slight departure from normal gameplay guides, in this issue we bring you a look behind the EVE forums, an idiot-friendly guide to lag and a massive how-to on writing EVE-themed fiction.

    PLUS
Profiles on Intrepid Crossing, Goonswarm and Ev0ke | Heavy Interdictors undocked | Interviews with GM Wyrm and prepH | Curzon Dax and DHB WildCat? tell us their histories | ...and lots of other stuff
Maybe it'll be in the mail tomorrow. Or else it's going to be a long wait until next Monday!

EVE Strategic Maps - Never undock without it!

With Tranquility being upgraded to the Empyrean Age expansion, I thought I'd take some time to review Serenity Steele's EVE Strategic Maps (ESM). As I mentioned in the last episode of The Drone Bay, I got my copy of the ESM about 2 weeks ago.

When I first got it, I spent about half an hour going regions where my corp (Phoenix Labs) has been active, looking at the various systems we're mining in, to see where they connect to other regions, trade routes and what not. I have to say that it's quite an eye opening experience to finally wrap your head around the geography of the systems around your main base of operation.

Since then, I've used it to help see where I was going when accepting various missions and allowed myself to drop by systems on the way to my destination to see what was out there. It's a weird feeling. I mean I know a lot of these systems, having had to visit them either for mining operations or missions. But to actually see then on a map, is a different thing - to me anyways.

    EON Insert

The ESM comes to you very well packaged, in a sturdy cardboard box. So for those of you like me who are a tad picky, you shouldn't be worried about it being damaged when it gets to you. With the ESM, you'll also get the typical EON insert (shown above) and a pad of little yellow stickers (140 in all) used to track outposts in the systems you visit. Buy subscribing to the 'Outpost Alert' and using the stickers, your maps should always be up to date.

    Legend

On the flip side of the cover is the Legend. You'll need to learn it in order to take full advantage of the maps. It'll take some time to familiarize yourself with it though, as it is filled with a ton of information. From the types of jumps (system, region or constellation), to the number of stations in a systems and it's security level. You'll also have a way to quickly know the types of services available at these station, just by a quick glance. And there's a lot more information in there. The bottom-half of the Legend has a few examples which were very useful.

    Table of Content

The Table of Content follows with all the regions, including the new Black Rise region that sits between the Caldari and Gallente Empires.

    The EVE Universe

The Universe map will allow you to quickly see the placement of the various regions as you jump between them.

    The EVE Universe

Finally the region maps starting, in alphabetical order, with Aridia. This is where the meet of the ESM is and where all the fun begins!

Serenity spent almost two years working on the ESM, and his efforts clearly show. A job well done. Call me old fashion, but there's just something about holding a 74 page atlas in you hands - something that a PDF can't compete with.

So, if you were thinking about getting a copy, use the downtime to order yours. With all the flying around we'll soon be doing for our respective factions, I know my copy will come in handy!

EVE Strategic Maps is on its way!

This morning I got wonderful news that my copy of ESM had shipped and was on its way from across the pond. From what I've been told the pre-orders were very numerous and the guys at MMMPublishing were busy packaging each copy to be sent to their proud owners!

Just to let you know that (finally) your copy(ies) of the long-awaited EVE Strategic Maps has (have) now shipped. Yes, your EVE experience is about to
    become a whole lot easier...

When you receive your package you will, we hope, appreciate the reason for the delay - a completely new region coming in the Empyrean Age expansion - Black Rise. EVE Strategic Maps includes this new region, and you are one of the first to have this advance information for an area of New Eden not yet open for business. Use that knowledge wisely...

Suffice to say, thank you for your patience. It is not possible, or realistic at least, to email every buyer individually, hence this 'form' email. Some of you only ordered in the last 48 hours - but for some it is nearly 48 days ago that EVE Strategic Maps became the most eagerly awaited drop from the mailman.

We hope you like it. Serenity Steele has worked tirelessly for many, many months to bring you the ultimate in EVE geography. We applaud his efforts, as will you. Here at MMM Publishing, we are now delighted to bring it to fruition. Now, time to wait for that thud on the door mat...

    Cheers

    The E-ON / ESM team

Now if Canada Post can do it's job properly and not butcher the package, I'll be ecstatic!!

EON #011 - Table of Content

EON Issue 011This latest issue is probably the best issue so far. And I'm not saying that because my name (p10) and blog (p77) both appear in this issue. This wouldn't be the first time.

My relationship with EON goes back a long time. Some may remember that I had a picture of me and my better-half in issue #003. Once you've stopped starring at Lacy and Melissa, you'll notice me on in the bottom middle photo. Big smile, dark blue shirt next to the cute brunette in a turquoise top (my wife), yep that's me! That was back in 2006 at the Las Vegas Player Gathering.

Anyways, back to why I think this is the best issue so far. I say so because of the quality of the articles, news and chronicles. Now I haven't gone through the whole issue, but with what I read so far, I really look forward to the next issues.

In our digital day and age, where important gaming events come-up weekly, if not daily, EON still manages to get me excited about upcoming events (Fan Fest 2008), guides (Insider's Guide series) and upcoming products (EVE novel, EON Special Issue). And before I forget, anyone who's ever read an issue of EON, please take the time to complete the EON Survey that Zapatero has put up. It's time well invested in the future of this precious publication.

EVE Strategic Maps will ship late, and that makes me happy!

Why you may wonder? A worthy questions which deserve an explanation. Last week, while waiting for EON issue #011 to arrive, I ordered Serenity Steele's EVE Strategic Maps.

I hadn't planned to order it so soon, but when I got the MMM Publishing newsletter, I just couldn't resist.

    I had to get it.

Since then I did receive my EON issue (and will be posting the ToC soon), but I was still waiting for my ESM.

Well it seems I'm going to have to wait a bit longer then expected. But it's for a good cause. Earlier today I received the following email from MMM Publishing:

Thanks for ordering EVE Strategic Maps, which we were expecting to begin
shipping within the next 10 days.

However, we have just returned from CCP’s Iceland HQ where we discussed some exciting new content which will slightly delay the shipping of EVE Strategic Maps, but will in fact put you well ahead of the rest of the player base.

Why? There is, as you may know already, an expansion coming in a few months, which will introduce completely new content to the world of EVE. So although your copy of ESM will arrive a couple of weeks later than planned, it will now contain advance information, allowing you totake advantage of the knowledge of this new content before anyone else. CCP has agreed to exclusively reveal this data to us now, wellin advance of it ‘going live’, in order that we can ensure the first run of EVE Strategic Maps includes the most accurate information possible.

As you read this, Serenity Steele is busy exploring this new contentin his Polaris Frigate, plotting the data and mapping every system, planet, moon, asteroid field, ice field and jump gate. With EVE Strategic Maps on your desk, you can be ready to take control. We will email you again to let you know when your copy of ESM is on the way, but for now thanks for your patience. We promise you will not be is appointed.

Regards The E-ON / ESM team

Priviliged information eh! Well I can certainly wait a bit longer for that! If you haven't ordered your copy, now's a great reason to do so. Or else you can wait for my review once I receive my copy.

    Cheers!

EON Issue #011 on its way right now!

The latest issue of yours truly's favourite EVE Online magazine is on it's way, having shipped out on the late last week. Here's what's coming up in this next issue, though I will have a detailed ToC (table of content) of the issue when it gets here, as usual!

ONE ALLIANCE TO RULE THEM ALL? - Why are Julius Caesar, JRR Tolkien and Isaac Asimov meeting in a smoky station bar in the Drone Regions? And why does CCP's Greyscale appear to be preening his mechanical feathers? Why, they have come together to plot the conquest of 0.0, of course! In order to ponder the ultimate military conundrum of EVE, Terra Nova's Nate Combs has assembled (in his own head, we might add) a stellar cast of some of the greatest thinkers in history and had them play out a bizarre thought experiment to consider the motivations and make-up required of an alliance in order that it might rule all others. Don't worry, Greyscale's wings are purely cosmetic.

MARAUDERS - Last issue we brought you a Testflight on the best budget cruisers to take into PvP. This time we try out what are among the most expensive (and apparently the most versatile) sub-capital ships on the market: the much-talked about Marauder Battleships. How should they be used on the post-Trinity battlefield, if at all, and what mods should you fit? Answers inside.

BACK IN THE DAY - With each successive patch and expansion EVE has been evolving to the point where the original game from 2003 is almost unrecognizable. Speaking to a bunch of crusty EVE veterans we catch a glimpse of what EVE was like then, what it's like for them now and ask whether the changes made have been for good or for ill.

HISTORY OF NEW EDEN - PART III - The Great Northern War saw the winding down of pirate corp mOo and the wind up of Band of Brothers, in-between which we saw the rise and fall (and rise again) of many alliances across EVE. Most importantly New Eden's first big bust-up formed the blueprint for every major war that has followed. EVE-History.net's Reiisha looks at how it started and chronicles the slow grind of it's eventual end.

PLUS - Tony Gonzales on EVE's first novel • Tuxford on being Tuxford • A noob joins EVE university • Profiles of voogru, Fantome and Schani Kratnorr • ...and lots of other stuff
