Tortuga Lacrimosa: The best EVE Online trailer ever made!

Somehow, I completely missed this one little gem produced by the very talented EVE filmmaker Dire Lauthris.

The video below is, in my humble opinion, the best EVE Online video to date. I came across the video through a comment at Massively, left by Myrkur which linked to this forum post, dating back to February 10th of this year. Please make sure to visit the EVE Forums to read up on the background of the video.

I also highly recommend that you download the 117Mb video in order to truly appreciate the work done by Dire Lauthris. Sir, you are truly gifted!

Wow! There are some really talented Filmmakers out there. I for one can't wait to see what they do with Ambulation (I refuse to call it by its official, and lame, title of Walking In Stations)

Mandrill, you're right. I can't stand referring to it as an action rather than a name. It's like saying, "I'm going to play Flying Internet Spaceships tonight."

Ambulation has a better ring to it.
Cool video, btw.

Awesome video, every time I see it. And when I see that I don't care for half a second about walking in stations. THIS is what I play EVE for.

That is gorgeous.

Ambulations it is in my book also!

Dire Lauthris has been making gorgeous EVE Online videos for a long time now!

Just look at my pretty Megathron when the pack of megas do a fly by.

Was my first Titan bridging. It took hours !
Mostly cause people kept bumping it, but damn what a fleet.

On a side note that was quite a campaign whatever people may wish to think of the outcome.

The tortuga idea was also a noble concept.

If you have comments on the "experiment" then keep it civil and non CAOD like.

Woohoo! We got a star to comment here!

/camera flashes several times in the direction of wotlankor!

I can certainly appreciate the time it took you guys to have all the sequences captured. Must have been crazy!

Thanks for dropping by.

He he, by far not a star.

The video is made "as it were".
There is no posing for the cameras or "Fleet do a fly by, now and make it look good"

The effect you see/feel is from superb cutting/editing and sound from Dire.

The time it took was mostly due to the fact that a lot of us had never been near a Titan besides when it was hostile.

Wow, then I'm even more impressed with Dire's work and talent.

I've never been near a Titan myself. Something to add to my To Do list!

Along with seeing the EvE gate eh ?

:)

Ive yet to see it myself.

Just saw this link on the video page, so just to say thanks for the props! It was a good campaign, a pity it didn't turn out as we hoped but fun nonetheless!

As wotlankor said it was all shot during the live ops, mostly whenever the lag wasn't so bad or I wasn't about to die. :D

Also had to give greets to an ex-coreli memeber! Must have been before my time there but it was a damn fine corp!

@Dire - Thanks for dropping by Sir! Yeah, Coreli was a long time ago for me. T'was a blast and a great group. I left when the corp split and half went into pirating and drug dealing.

@ CK - Sir, have you never seen Clear Skies? Im sorry but THAT is the best EVE video ever made. Not to put this video down, this is a close second, but Clear Skies Takes it for sure!

CrazyKinux said...

@Malnor - Oh, I know that one well. Actually loved it and mentioned it in The Drone Bay #12. But these are two very different kinds of machinima. Though both are amazing feats and a lot of work for their creators, Tortuga wins me over any day of the week.

A question of taste in the end!

Personally I get the goose bums whenever I hear the music of Lacrimosa and see the first shots fly after the intro.

I did try to mimic the effects of Lacrimosa when making a movie but I simply had to give up as I keept measuring against Lacrimosa and damn my movie was pethetic.

Ill hold on taking pictures :)

I do keep a couple of EVE videos on my iPhone which I use to showcase EVE to friends who don't play the game. This is one of my favorites (Post-Trinity).

Another noteworthy one is Relentless
