The "Why we love EVE Online" Contest List of Participants!

When I first launched this competition almost 2 weeks ago, I wanted to list all the participants at the end of that original article. But then, both CCP and Massively.com mentioned the contest (well ok, I kind of begged them too!), and I got bombarded with entries. So much so, that I thought it would be more appropriate to have them all listed here on a separate post.

Due to this overwhelming deluge of entries, I've had to come to the fact that I'll miss the deadline I had set for myself to announce the 10 lucky winners. Had the turnout been what a typical Blog Banter is - say 30-some entries - then I could have made the deadline, but 56! Fifty-freakin-six entries! I mean for Godliness of the Amarr, the Liberty of the Gallente, the Discipline of the Caldari and the Spiritual Awakening of the Minmatar, there's a very limited number of hours in a day, and I do have a day job! :p

So, I'm asking - correction - I'm letting you know that I'll have the results ready for a BIG SPLASH DOWN this next Monday, the 8th day of the month of purification, in the year 2010 C.E.. How's that!?

Take a look at the list below, and you'll understand what I'm up against! A victim of my own success if there ever was one!

Looking back at 2008, the year of possibilities!

Life has mysterious ways of presenting opportunities to you. Sometimes you're going with the flow gaining speed and momentum to get you where you want to go. Sometimes it's as if you're fighting up a raging river in early spring.

In late March of last year I hit a speed bump in my professional career and found myself with a lot more time on my hands. Ever the optimistic, I leveraged this opportunity to turn this humble little EVE Online Blog and make it the best EVE blog on the Intertubes! The rest as they say, is history!

Let's review the year together and recap the major milestone for this capsuleer blogger.

From 2005 through 2007:
  • 61,569 visitors
  • 89,582 pageviews
In 2008 alone this blog received:
  • 135,688 visitors
  • 206,217 pageviews
  • 506 Daily Average of RSS subscribers (in the last month)
I'm literally floored when I look at the above statistics. Who could have foreseen such results! A lot of work went into achieving these results, and though a lot of that work was done alone, I could not have reached these heights without the help of others.

The Sins of EVE Online

Over at Massively, James Egan has put together a list of all the evil schemes New Eden capsuleers can lure their fellow players to. It's an interesting list, since all these villainous activities are allowed in the game. I don't know of any other MMO out there where you can make a living doing one of these. Most would be considered griefing in other MMOs, but in EVE's sand box approach it's all available to the more sinister capsuler population.

Check it out!

EVE Online Speedlinking for May 13th, 2008

Well, EVE turned 5 years old over the last week. Wow, that's 1,824 days one could have been training a single character. I wonder how many skill points that would be? If anyone can figure that one out, I'd love to know! Anyways, here are the items for the past week.

Have Clone, Will Travel - a new EVE column

Earlier today, my first feature was published over at Massively.com. The column, called Have Clone, Will Travel, is of course a play on words on Robert Heinlein's wonderful science fiction novel Have Space Suit - Will Travel. My first article, Ambulation in the EVE tutorial, is about how Ambulation could be used to improve the current EVE Tutorial.

Do not worry, I'll still be posting here on a regular basis, daily if time permits. The fine folks at Massively.com have given me an opportunity I could not refuse. For now, my column will appear weekly, but that may change to bi-weekly if RL gets in the way (summer will soon be upon us here is eastern Canada).

So head over, and let me know your thoughts!

Show notes:

Episode 5 (Or perhaps the new Episode 1 is more appropriate): Format Changes

We're a bit short on show notes this week. Suffice to say that there are big changes coming for The Drone Bay, and we hope you'll stick it out with us. CK was unable to join us, but Al and I soldiered on without him again. Look to see him back next week as we continue with our new format.

Until next time, lvl 22 war LFG for SFK. As always, you can e-mail us at dronebay[at]gmail.com.

The new format may require a new e-mail address, so be on the lookout for that.

[Wink Wink!!!]

EVE Online Speedlinking for April 1st, 2008

The Drone Bay: Episode 4

[Though this is being posted way after this episode came out, I still want to be able to keep track of them chronologically. In the future I'll be posting as they get released! Promised.]

Virgin Worlds Link

Show notes:

The Drones have gone rogue in Episode 4! This week the team is back together, and Al puts his sobriety in danger by drinking every time Crovan screws up a segment intro. Will his liver survive? Find out in this week's Drone Bay Podcast!

Bring on the Drones:

In the weekly recap, the team discusses the forum threads on the CSM, the fake RA titan deathmail, the state of the Great War, and more.

In DON'T PANIC, Al gets walked through missions and mission rewards by the grizzled old vets. Crovan recommends The Kill Mission Survival Guide (works in game) for all budding (or experienced) mission runners out there.

In the listener feedback section, Crovan answers a couple of ship setup questions, and each of the guys chooses one listener mail to discuss on air. Did yours make it? Listen to find out!

This weekâs out of game discussion is replaced with a community focus, where the guys promote Morphisat's Blog, Shut Up, We're Talking, and Massively.

Please, please keep giving us feedback. We canât get to everything every week, but we do appreciate the input and questions. If youâre interested in voice mailing us, please try the mp3 or wav file in an e-mail method for now while I try to get Skype sorted again.

EVE Online Speedlinking for March 22nd, 2008

Well as I start to put together this week's list of links, I've just docked into Phoenix Labs Home station in Khanid Prime. Seems that our ops in Nuken is coming to a close. During my absence on the other side of the pond, the orders were given to move back to KP. Khanid Kingdom has been home to PPL for so long it's hard to imagine leaving for too long.

Anyways, back to this week's news and links. It's a long one this week, so grab yourself a coffee and start reading!

As I said before, a busy week. Losts of news on the Council of Stellar Management this week, a result of CCP making the annoucement that the Call for Candidates was now open. MMO history in the making folks. We live in interesting times I tell ya!

Ok, now it's time to undock and pay a visit to a couple of pirates! Fly safe folks!
