Your Favorite Posts on CrazyKinux's Musings are....

A week or so ago, I ran a poll here on CrazyKinux's Musings asking you what your favorite posts were - 52 of you to the time to respond. Thank you kindly.

Not surprisingly these were the results:

  1. EVE Blog Banters (28%)
  2. Guides and Links (25%)
  3. Ship Setups (19%)
  4. General EVE News (17%)
  5. Contests (7%)
  6. EVE Post Cards (1%)
  7. Friday Videos (0%)
So I guess that it's no surprise then that the latest EVE Blog Banter Contest was such a frackin' success! And despite the abysmal 0%, I still plan on doing these non-EVE-related Friday Videos! I enjoy them too much to stop now! :p

Your comments and input is always welcomed by the way!

CrazyKinux's Musing Design Poll

For those of you who visit the blog and don't just read them through RSS readers, you'll have noticed that I gone from a 3-column back to a 2-column design. I did this because as I sat down yesterday morning for my usual week-end clean-up, I kind of noticed that with the 3 columns it was getting visually very crowed.

Now what I like about the 3 column was the fact that the blog page wasn't too long, since I had widgets on both sides, cutting in half the length of the page. The down side was that it was too busy - for my taste anyways.

This is where you come in. I need your opinion. I've set-up a poll on the top right column and would like to know where you stand on this matter. If you want to let me know, please fill in the poll and add your comments to his post. I'll make sure to take into account every opinion.

CK out.

EON Alliance survey now live!

My mates Zapatero, Editor of EON magazine, on behalf on Nate Combs (the other mate), EVE Online's representative over at Terra Nova, are conducting an alliance survey to better understand the motivations of players and the effort needed in getting such a large group of players to work together.

As Zapatero puts it:
To help us further in our understanding I've put together a survey to find out what people's opinions are about their own alliances and alliances in general. The survey does not ask for any character or alliance names so everything is very anonymous.
So head on over to >> complete the survey <<. And this goes for anyone who's ever been part of an alliance, whether you're still in it or not.
The survey will close 10am GMT on Feb 18th. The results will be studied and used within an article we have planned for the next issue of the magazine. Soon after publication the data will be made available to the entire community.
Zap, you owe me a pint!

What's the longest you've gone without playing? An EVE Online poll.

So as you probably know (or should!), I took the first month of this year off. No blogging, no EVE, no gaming. None, nadda, notin! Though it wasn't planned, it was a breath of fresh air, and aloud me to consider why I consider spending so much of my leisure time in or around EVE Online.

So why did I come back after a month hiatus? For a bunch of reasons actually.

First and foremost, the setting - science-fiction on a space-opera scale never seen before or since. CCP's space MMO is in a league of it's own when it comes to vastness. The lore also has a lot to day with this appeal. And this goes for the official EVE Chronicles and the fan material (EON, forum and all). More, give me more. I can't wait for Tony's book in June, and for CCP White Wolf's RPG books!

Second, it's a virtual world (notice I did not use the term game) that has endless possibilities, one where I can do as I please. It's not a theme park, its much more a sandbox. I can build a castle of any size I choose, I can play with others, or not, and I can share my toys, or not. I like choice; I hate being told what to do, or where to go.

Third, the EVE community, the players. I don't know if you've noticed, but EVE Online attracts a different type of player than your typical theme-park MMO (WoW anyone). It's a more dedicated crowd (hell with the learning curve it has, only addicts get beyond the tutorials!), a more mature bunch of geeks. Though we still know how to throw a god damn amazing party, especially at the top of the world! And how could I forget the unforgettable, unmistakable, Warp Drive Active podcasts by the greatest EVE fanboys out there, winterblink and urban mongral! How could I live without my regular WDA podcast!

So for all these reasons, I came back. I returned home, to New Eden. To have fun, to dream, to get podded. And to try all over again!

So what about you? While you're at it, if the poll is still up (top right of this blog), please cast your vote, let us know why you left, but most importantly, why you came back. Cause you did come back, right?

Testing the 'Blogger in Draft' poll feature

I'm testing the new feature for polls that in offer for 'Blogger in Draft'. Running a poll on EVE Voice.

Yes, I've have noticed that it doesn't seem to work in Firefox, which means that most of you won't be able to participate until the Blogger devs fix the issue. I still want to leave it on so that it can be tested by them, and eventually improved. Hope you'll bare with me until then!

EVE Online hardware poll results

My latest completed poll was about what you wanted or were about to upgrade in order to play EVE Online to it's fullest. The results are in and it basically shows the maturity of the graphic engine running EVE: most of you have absolutely no desire or need to upgrade any part of you gaming rig in order to enjoy playing EVE. Let's have a look at the results:

63% said it was just fine as is
17% will be upgrading their CPU (I'm one of those)
8% will be adding much needed RAM
8% will be changing the whole darn PC
4% will be changing most parts

Well there you have it. If you didn't get a chance to let your voice be known, then fill free to add your comments.

Now on to the next poll: so what are you, a PC gamer or console? Let me know!

EVE Intergalactic Bank scam poll results

It's been a few weeks since I ran my poll on the EIB scam and the results are on par with what I would have expected. Most of you -- 51% -- believed that it was all "part of EVE Online life", with only a few -- 8% -- judging the deed "morally questionable".

On the other hand some of you -- 16% -- thought that "the player should be banned" or that at least "CCP should try to prevent these" scams from happening at all. Oh, and a quarter of you
-- 26% -- had no clue whatsoever on what the EIB scam was even though I had linked a few good articles in the post!

For those of you who would want to see my thoughts on the subject, read the comments and had yours, then head over here.

In my next poll, I'll be asking you your opinion on the latest E:ON issue.

EVE Online Mini Poll results

After about a week on the site, I've had 42 participants respond to the "How many hours per week do you play EVE Online?" poll. And though the results are lower than I would have liked, I'd have to say that they probably still close to the overall average.

More than half of the respondents play EVE Online more than 10 hrs a week, and I would be one of them. I'm actually playing over 20 hrs a weeks, with about 2 hrs week nights and 10 hrs spread out over the week-end. That may seem a lot, but when you consider that I barely watch TV - about 6 hrs a week - then it doesn't seem so much.

If it did, Stéphanie would not let me any ways. We have a pretty busy social agenda and let me tell you, I better keep up or else! Seriously though, I tend to play late at night (after 9:00 PM), or early in the day (say 7:00 AM on the week-ends), so it rarely conflicts with anything we do.

Now that we're talking about 'when' I play, when do you? Do you play only on week nights, week-ends, whenever you can? Have you ever played an all nighter? Let me know!

As for the results of the poll, here they are:

    • I don't play EVE Online - 17% (7)
    • Less than 2 hrs - 2% (1)
    • Between 2 to 5 hrs - 10% (4)
    • Between 5 to 10 hrs - 17% (7)
    • Between 10 to 20 hrs - 36% (15)
    • Over 20 hrs - 19% (8)
However much time you're spending in EVE, enjoy every minute of it. There's always something interesting to do. It's all up to you!

EVE Online Mini Poll closing by end of this week-end

I recently added a mini poll feature to my blog, just for the fun of learning about the yours habits and preferences. I'll have them once in awhile mostly on EVE Online, but sometimes on other subjects like gaming, building a gaming rig, console gaming, gadgets, anime, Skyland, and the list goes on.

It's a very interactive way of learning what others thing and feel. I'll to add a comment post to new polls so that we can discuss the questions as the polling happens.

If this really goes well, I'd like to get those darn pop-up ads removed and do the same for the ads in the poll results. But the costs aren't worth that yet. We'll just have to see.

While I have you're attention, if there's anything in particular that you're interested in knowing about EVE or other subjects I've covered so far, please let me know in a comment.

I'm always happy getting feedback!
