Out of Eden: Black Prophecy looks promising

Visually anyways. I don't have much details about the game, but from the video below, we can tell that they've got the visuals right. I've signed up for their Beta, and will certainly keep an eye on this upcoming game as more details become available. The developer is Reakktor, based in Germany. I don't know much about them, except that they've dabbled in the MMO world since 1999.

Sweet looking eh?

If you've got any additional information, I'd love to hear from you!

I agree the graphics for space flight and combat are absolutely stunning, I couldn't think of how they could do them better. It also puts the simplistic "wow" like Jumpgate graphics to shame (but that may be an edge for large scale battles).

However they were designing it to be capable of 300 ships in a battle, but we know all to well how those promises go (Eve, AoC, etc.). If they could deliver on that it'd be an amazing experience with capital ships and fighters.

If you want a little more info on it I picked up on it around August of 2007. More info here:

I haven't seen them do hardly any serious marketing or community development, they appea to just be keeping a low profile.

THanks Scott for the link! Nice to get some background info on them.

Neocron eh? Knew about the game, not the developer. Hope this one has more success. It's got all the looks for it!

That looked very nice... Already registered also.

From the movement of the ships it looks more like Freelancer than EVE... more action oriented. But apart from that, and from the description in Scott's link, it doesn't look like it's bringing anything different from what we've already got from EVE.

@Joao - Still, it will be nice to see CCP get a little competition in the scifi space MMO gaming. Maybe, they can improve the game even better if they've got something to compare it to!

It's pretty, for sure. It's been a year since that info at the link Scott posted was published. You'd think the Black Prophecy web site would have a little bit more info on the game by now than a couple of trailers and four screen shots. This made me curious. And suspicious enough to ask...why DO they need enough of my personal information that they could practically steal my identity, just to put me on a list as a possible Beta tester? Maybe I'm just feeling extra paranoid today, but I'm not sure this all adds up.

Think I'll wait til it's a real product.

10tacle has gone/is going under. I assume this property is owned by Reakktor though. Not sure tbh how the 10tacle situation affects Black Prophecy moving forward. That being said, I'm looking forward to there being some actual competition with EVE in the sci-fi MMO space. Some players are wanting a space MMO where you're piloting as you would in a regular console/PC title as opposed to EVE's style. Maybe titles like Black Prophecy and Jumpgate: Evolution would better suit them.

@Mynxee - tbh I always bend the truth whenever giving out that sort of information, so I can understand your point of view. In this case though, I don't think it's an issue.

@James - You're right about that one. Earlier today I got word from James "Delphi" Finn from Techhaven Network, the official english fansite for BP. Their Prophecy Network forums have more info on the game, including a piece on the 10Tacle insolvency. Seems it hasn't affected Reakktor too much.

I'm about to register on the PN and am looking forward to learning more.

Just wanted to clarify on that last post CK, Techhaven Network is the official English fansite for Neocron (Reakktor's previous MMO). Prophecy-Network is soon to launch its front page with news and articles, hopefully some from the team working on BP.

And as a current EvE player, I am very much hoping that BP will take the space MMO genre in a new direction with more skill to flying the ships (as opposed to the skill of fitting and using modules efficiently in EvE).

Cheers for the Link, hope to see you all in space!

Thanks for the correction Delphi!

And I second your enthusiasm. I'll make sure to wave when I pass by your ship.
