The Carebear that dreamed of going pew pew!

I've been playing EVE for over 4 years now, and have mostly been what is commonly known as a carebear within the EVE community. That is, a player that either does PvE, mines, manufactures, trades, or any combination of the previous, as opposed to PvP.

I've always wanted to go after the rats that have destroyed my ships, looted my cargo, or ruthlessly podded me. The funny thing is that though I've always acted like a carebear, I've trained like a PVPer. Case in point, of my 32 million skill points, 8 million are in Gunnery, almost 7 million in Drones, and 2,5 million in Missile Launcher Ops. That's almost half my skill points in combat. Talk about a harmless carebear! Not!!

So tonight, I've spent all my time in a hangar in Badivefi, chatting away with two professional PvPers, Alexis Aristide and Sine Tamar, going over a PVP Myrmidon setup. I can't wait to take her out and let it rip on some poor unsuspecting pirate - and I'm not talking the NPC kind.

I'll let you know about the setup we came up with and tell you how I did in my first PvP engagement where I wasn't the victim!

Fly safely all - there goes the carebear in me!

I've only been playing for 1.5 years and have next to no skills trained for care bearing, the most care bearish skill i have is mining IV.

I can't even remember the last time i mined or attempted to make isk by exploiting the market.

I get all the isk i need from donations and loot from fleet battles, Heck- i haven't even ratted since goons first arrived in the south, months ago.

Also- You've seriously fucked something up with your SP training. I've got nearly 25mil SP yet have only been playing like 1/3rd the amount of time you have, what's up with that?

I don't understand how people can make a conscious decision to be a carebear, I could understand if you were like some big capital ship producer with a dozen separate accounts but for the average empire carebear i always just assumed they simply don't know that there is more to the game other than mining or whatever repetitive, menial task they are performing.

But while PVP, specifically fleet battles take up most of my in-game time i spend much, much more time and effort on other aspects of EVE- in particular the metagame.

I guess i'm the closest thing goonswarm has to an internal propaganda director and most of the shit i do revolves around the trickery, recruitment and assimilation of newbies.

Well believe me then when I tell you that there is plenty to do in EVE without PvP. I've made millions in trading without even leaving a station and these opportunities is when make EVE one of the few MMORPGs that stand out.

Having said that, PvP is an integral part of PvP, one that would most likely not exist were it not for the thousands of carebear that build ships, build ammo and ship equipment and offer cannon fodder the PvPers out there.

As for my 32 vs you 25 million, well that's because Treenara is only 3 years old and has a lot of skill trained to level 5 which take a lot more time to train and do so at a much slower pace.

I've gotta admit, I'm looking forward to hearing more about how you do - I might just steal your config for my own Myrm. when I start leaving Empire space and getting more into low sec.

Best of luck, I'm only 4 months old, and have also been furiously training pvp skills, mainly in frigate sized ships. I have about 1 million already in gunnery. I hope to join you in not being a carebear someday soon, I just need to find me a corp who will take a newb such as me. :)

Will try to let you all know how this experiment works out! Looking forward to biting back!

@suckamc - If you're looking for a corp then why don't you apply mine - Phoenix Labs? Where currently heavily recruiting. Our structure is a bit different then most corps though so you might want to check out our site first. And then come and chat with us on the SHOP@PPL channel.

Looking forward to seeing/chatting with you online!

Goodluck! You might find that without a well thought out plan it's very hard to get good PvP action. Or at least PvP action where the deck isn't completely stacked against you.

Learned that the hard way tonight when I got podded! Darn, this setup wasn't even a day old!!

So there are PvP tactics eh? Six against one (that one being me) leaves no chance at all. But eh, I'm learning and lasted long enough to do some damage to his shields!

Oh dear!

I too am a carebear. don't wanna be but i suck at PvP. so for 3 years been running missions in empire. i own 3 faction fitted CNRs. 3 billion ISK in the bank and an itch to load up fof's and smartbombs and see how deep i could get before dying.

@skravos - Now that sounds familiar! Don't want to minimize your skills, but you probably wouldn't get too far! =)

When you do venture out, let us know!
