EVE Online Industrialists will get their expansion too!

I've been saying it for so long I can't remember when I first brought it up. Well, it seems that CCP were either listening to what I was saying (very unlikely) or they were already working on this very issue (much more likely).

As reported by EVE Network News, and mentioned to me by two reliable sources, CCP will release a new expansion, codename MIDAS, that will see Industrialist finally get the attention they deserve and the goodies they need! This follows an earlier article at Gamasutra which briefly discussed the economic implications in a game like EVE. The "news bomb" was released during an interview with EVE Associate Producer Arend Stuhrmann, which can be seen in a video over at MMORG.com.

Suffice to say that I am ecstatic to learn such great news. We know little so far. But knowing that something is brewing is excitement enough for one night!

I wonder if the mini-freighter or the miniature highsec Rorqual (Orca or something?) will be implemented in some way, shape or form.

Is it too much to hope for some upgrades to exploration? Fingers crossed for the sake of my nerd alt.

Looking forward to upgrades to invention and research and whatnot, but I hope that's not "instead" of ambulation. And /agree on the exploration front.

@Havohej - Oooh, the Orca. Bring it on!

@Mynxee - Got my toes crossed on that one too Mynxee!

@Winged Nazgul - Nice find, thanks for the reminder.

@krmaxwell - I'd really be surprised if it was an "instead". Surprised and disappointed.

Mynxee, I'm an explorer as well, so any boost to that profession would be great. If they finally remove asteroid belts and make them something you've got to scan to find, all the better. Not sure how miners feel about this though.

Hi

I did a bit of mining last year, and I have to say that if asteroid belts become exporation-only, you're going to HURT a LOT of miners SEVERELY, especially noob miners.

One way to make it more tolerable could be if explorers could sell bookmarks to miners. That is, the explorer explores to find an asteroid belt, and then he bookmarks it, and sells the bookmark on the Market (not via Contracts - the Market is much more transparent and buyer-friendly). The issue of fraud has to be dealt with somehow, like selling a belt as "lots of plagioclase" when in fact it has only a few ten thousand units of veldspar.

As for the Midas expansion, one thing I'm hoping badly for is tech 2 modules for looting and salvaging. Specifically a tech 2 (=advanced technology) Tractor Beam module, with longer range. Even slightly longer would be good, like 24 km compared to the 20 km of the tech 1 version (which is the only version in the game). It makes NO SENSE to me at all that there aren't any tech 2 tractor beams, or named tractor beams, in the game. It makes no sense to have only one single version, when almost all other modules have several different versions.

Same for a tech 2 salvaging module, although I find this to be much less urgent.
